1 Brief Industrial Profile of Gadag District

1. General Characteristics of the District:

Gadag district, the core area of Kalyani Chalukyas has many monuments (mainly Shiva temples, Jain Basadis) Kalyani. Chalukyas propagated Jainism and built temples (known for architectural beauty). Gadag district has five taluks namely Gadag. Betgeri, Ron, Shirhatti, Nargund and . Gadag District was formed in 1997, when it was split from Dharwad District. Gadag District is also known for Wind Power Generation

Location & Geographical Area.

Gadag, a unique district located in the western part of northern Karnataka lies between 14.52 North latitudinal parallels and 75.17 and 76.02 East longitudinal parallels. The district is bounded by six districts namely Dharwad on West, Belgaum on the North West, Bagalkot on the North, Koppal on the East, Bellary on the South East and Havari on the SouthWest. MalaPrabha River in the North and Tungabhadra in the South from the natural Boundaries. The Total are of Gadag is 4,656 km2

Topography.

The average elevation of Gadag is 656 meters.

1.3 Availability of Minerals.

The major Mineral available in Gadag district are Quartz and Iron ore. Apart from that O B Sand, O B Stone and O B Clay are readily available in this district.

1.4 FOREST:

The District consists of 32614 hectares forest cover with any significant produce worth mentioning.

1.5 Administrative set up:

The Dy. Commissioner is head of district and assisted by two Asst. Commissioners, 5 Tahsildars pertaining to 5 Talukas. Gadag comes under the administrative control of Belgaum division.

1. Government Rules and regulations are threatening factors to the existing/prospective entrepreneurs for further investments (like labour law, taxation etc) 2. The understanding between the subcontractors (job workers) and the traders are not satisfactory in this sector. 3. No Brand Image conscious/ quality awareness is in the existing cluster actors. 4. Adequate water supply, electricity and drainage system must be provided to industrial estates/areas.
