Aims and objectives of the Trekking Camp

 To impart practical training on all aspects of activities in Mountainous area and high altitude includes rappelling to students.  To promote adventure activities among students.  To train the students to survive in mountains and to take part in high altitude trekking, expeditions and rescue missions in mountainous terrain.  To broaden students horizons and knowledge through this camp.  To inculcate interest in and love of nature with its myriad living forms.  To promote awareness of the biodiversity of - Wildlife Sanctuary among the youth and involve them in community conservation efforts. PROGRAMME DETAILS On 11th January, 2017 All the students of different university arrived at the campus of Dr. D.Y. Patil Arts, Commerce & Science College, Akurdi, Pune, Rajur College,Rajur and Shendi Forest guest house of Kalsubai

Harishchandragad Wildlife Santuary, district (MS),. On 12th January, 2017 We started journey from Pune on 12th January 2016 at early morning 7 am to Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wildlife Santuary. Here sight seen were shown to the students including Dam, Randha fall, Amruteshwar temple of Ratanwadi etc., along with information about some historical accounts.

State Level Trekking Camp 11th to 15 January 2017

The inaugural ceremony of the five day state level Trekking Camp organized was inaugurated at 9:00 am at the Ratanwadi Temple. Hon. Dr. Vasudevaji Gade, Vice-Chancellor, Savitribai Phule Pune University,Pune (MS), India, inaugurated the event Dr. Prabhakar Desai, Director, Board of Student Welfare, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, graced the occasion as a chief gust. Along with Dr. Pandit Shelke, Principal, PDEA’s Arts, Commerce and Science College, Otur College, Otur, Shri. Bal Bothe, editor, Sakal Newspaper, Ahmednagar, Shri. Thakaji Kanwade, Secretary, Adv. M.N. Deshmukh Arts, Commerce and Science College, Rajur, and Principal Dr. Babasaheb Deshmukh Rajur College Rajur also graced the occasion. After University anthem, dignitaries on the dais were felicitated by Principal, Ranjit Patil, Principal Dr. Mohan Waman and other College Staff. Dr. Mohan Waman, Convener of the Trekking Camp rendered welcome address to the students participating in the event and welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted in his Convener address regarding the events. Shri. Thakaji Kanwade expressed his views to the students on Trekking Camp. Dr. Prabhakar Desai, suggested student to talk to Rocky Mountains, mountain will talk to you. Shri. Bal Bothe expressed his views on adventure and its importance to the students. Dr. Vasudevaji Gade shared his many views on quality and skilled educations ultimately give the future. He explained the importance adventure, biodiversity and suggested principles to protect the biodiversity. Inaugural session ended with a vote of thanks rendered by Dr. Ranjit Patil. Subsequently, the first group of students (75) along with their team leaders and college staff including Dr. Vijay Gade, Prof. Ganesh Funde, Prof. Sharad Bodke,Shri Kishore Patil and Shri. Umesh Gurav was trained in trekking around . Remaining 77 students were trained with skills including pitch climbing, fixed rope climbing, Jummaring, free climbing and rappelling by Expert Shri. Shrikant Kasat and his team. In the evening of the day, Shri. Shrikant Kasat provided fundamental knowledge in the form of lecture by demonstration of videos, images etc. After dinner, campfire was arranged for interaction and sharing of ideas and views between each other. On 14th January, 2017 Second group of students (77) along with their team leaders and college staff including Prof. Mukesh Tiwari, Prof. Anjali Aikwate and team leaders of respective university was trained in trekking around Ratangad Fort. Remaining 75 students were trained with skills including pitch climbing, fixed rope climbing, Jummaring, free climbing and rappelling by Expert Shri. Shrikant Kasat and his team. In the evening of the day Local people of Ratanwadi village shared their views regarding their cultures.

Afterwards, Dr. Mahnedra S. Khyade delivered lecture on Biodiversity of along with he shown some rare and endangered plant images growing in Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary. Also provided knowledge of conservation practices and economy of plants for future generation. Dr. Mohan Waman also described regarding plants used by people for food, feed and shelter. After dinner, campfire was arranged for interaction and sharing of ideas and views between each other. On 15th January, 2017 Early morning, after breakfast, visit of Sacred Grove were arranged for students nearby to the Ratanwadi village named as Marutiban Sacred grove. Here, Dr. Mohan Waman and Dr. Mahendra Khyade explained the concept of Sacred Grove and its myth. After lunch, the camp was concluded with student’s experience. Implication(s) of Trekking Camp In this camp 152 students from 8 universities were participated. In the Five days of trekking camp students learned, practiced and adopted the Expedition techniques taught to them during the event. In such event it helps students a lot in their physical as well as mental capabilities. Learning from first- hand information through keen observation at the field is much important in making the subject unforgettable and long-life understanding (called it as Pragmatic Learning). Such practical activity is used for relating the concepts with actual life of the students. Thus the camp organized with the objectives at Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary proved to be extremely helpful to the students in understanding various aspects of trekking. Moreover, the camp would certainly help the students to develop interest in the field of disaster management and allied fields.
