UNDERSTANDING WORKSHOP TEST PANEL Name Institution Professor Date 11 Nature of task: Understanding the utility of each part of the testing panel Subject Control panel is a box or cabinet which contains electrical components to control the motors and equipments. It’s used to measure and test electrical devices, measurement of their operating voltage and current consumption, as well as testing for conductor continuity. The test panel in the Electrical workshop is very useful tool that can be used for testing. The following diagram is the test panel; each part of the test panel is numbered from 1 to 30. If a fixture shorts out, or if a circuit gets 3 overloaded, the breaker will "trip." Switch on or off the power from AC440 V 2 Circuit breaker for Circuit breakers protect the AC230V wiring and fixtures by turning off the power. Switch on or off the power from AC24 V 5 Circuit breaker for Circuit breakers protect the DC24V wiring and fixtures by turning off the power. If a fixture shorts out, or if a circuit gets overloaded, the breaker will "trip." Switch on or off the power from DC24 V 6 Voltmeter Measures the potential difference between two points in a circuit. 7 Changeover switch For changing various desired voltages. 8 Receptacle This is device into which an electric cord can be plugged in order to provide electricity. Used to test 230V equipments with the same socket 9 Socket For communication between two machines Used to test lamps that is Edison (E)27 type 4 10 Socket For communication between two machines. Used to test lamps that is Edison (E) 27 type 11 Receptacle This is device into which an electric cord can be plugged in order to provide electricity. Used to test 230V equipments with the same socket 12 Socket For communication between two machines . Used to test lamps that is Edison (E) 40 type 13 Socket For communication between two machines . Used to test lamps type Edison (E) 40 14 Receptacle This is device into which an electric cord can be plugged in order to provide electricity. Used to test 110V equipments with the same socket 15 Receptacle This is device into which an electric cord can be plugged in order to provide electricity. Used to test 110V equipments with the same socket 16 Socket Electrical devices used to connect to a power source onto which another device can be plugged or screwed in. Used to test lamps that is B-22 type 17 Socket Electrical devices used to connect to a power source onto which another device can be plugged or screwed in. Used to test lamps that is Edison (E) 12 type 23 Socket Electrical devices used to connect to a power source onto which another device can be plugged or screwed in, used to test lamps that is Edison (E) 12 type 24 Test Terminal AC440 V This provides AC power of 440 volts for connection of testing other equipments 25 Test Terminal AC230 V This provides AC power of 230 volts for connection of testing other equipments of similar voltage. 26 Test Terminal AC110 V This provides AC power of 110 volts for connection of testing other equipments of similar voltage. 27 Test Terminal AC24 V This provides AC power of 24 volts for connection of testing other equipments of similar voltage. 28 Test Terminal DC24 V To meet rigorous operating tests requirements in a variety of environmental conditions. This provides DC power of 24 volts for connection of testing 6 other equipments of similar voltage. 29 Test Jack To meet rigorous operating test requirements in a variety of environmental conditions Used for checking the continuity of M size fuses. 30 Fuse check This is use to check the working condition of fuses and its indication is LED light. Test Equipments Electrical workshop test panel is comprised of numerous, multifunction and site specific test equipments. Each test equipment has its own use in variety of situations and occasions. It was used to measure the current in mA in solar panel. Multifunction Calibrator It was used to generate 4-20mA signal for testing the pressure transmitter, when the signal was going up automatically the readings were changing on the pressure gauge in the CCR Regulated Power Supply It was used to charge up lifeboat batteries, the device was set at 13.8 V Clamp Meter It was used to check the current of each phases of the Domestic FW pump in the Electrical workshop Resistance Box It was used as a load of 270KΩ when the pressure transmitter was tested Addressee Programmer It was used to set the address for a fire smoke detector Insulation Tester It was used to check how good the insulation between the terminals and earth on the cargo pumps Digital thermometer It was used to read the temperature in DE and NDE of domestic FW pump Portable Wheatstone Bridge It can be used to change AC to DC Fluorescence Inspection Lamp It can be used to show any colorless steam leak in a pipe Some test equipments are shown on the following picture 9 10.
