NAME Minari MP3.mp3 DATE August 29, 2021 DURATION 24m 12s 2 SPEAKERS Speaker1 Speaker2 START OF TRANSCRIPT [00:00:00] Speaker1 The following is a message from Wellsprings congregation. [00:00:07] Speaker2 Good morning, wellsprings. It's good to be with you again. The band that kind of helped me navigate my teenage years was called The Replacements. They never sold a lot of records, although a lot of bands who came after them, who became a lot more popular than they ever did, credited the Replacements existence for those bands ever being able to form in the first place. Replacement's helped me find a sense of my voice and also helped me to find some of my fellow teenage misfit toys sense of connection and belonging. My favorite replacement's album is called Let It Be, and it was released in the latter part of 1984, I think October of 1984. And the last song on Let It Be is called Answering Machine. And it is about an answering machine. Lead singer Paul Westerberg, kind of the the brainchild behind The Replacements, sings about the ways in which the answering machine gets in the way of connection that he yearns for with a family member who he misses or someone he's dating or a friend. But it's really just about how we can't stand the answering machine, the last verse goes, how do I say I miss you to an answering machine? How do I say good night to an answering machine? How do I say I'm lonely to an answering machine? The message is fairly plain.

It may not be copied or reprinted except for personal reading. Several people deserve thanks for their help on this project. My wife, Anne, my sister, Mary Glazer, and my friends Laurence Boag and John Elstrott all read early versions of the manuscript and got me to believe that I should stick with it. My great friend David Crosby did the same, and I doubt that I would have kept at it except for their encouragement. Ernie Brace, a POW captured in Laos and released in Hanoi, was kind enough to read the sections on the MIA/POW experience. Capt. Zeke Cormier and Mr. Joe Ciokin arranged for me to fly out to the USS Constellation and the USS Carl Vinson to see what carrier catapult shots are like. And my son, Walter, both inspired and proofread the sections on wrestling. The Holiday Villager December 2020 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE by Gail Moyer Dolly Parton has put out a new song this year entitled, "When Life is Good Again." The last few words of the song say, "We'll make it through this long dark night. Darkness fades when faced with light. And everything's gonna be alright when life is good again." Speaking of when life is good again, life was good here in Holiday Village before the pandemic. For those of you who moved into Holiday Village in the last eight months, you haven't seen a clear picture of the goings-on here. The Social Committee sponsored parties/dances around St. Patty's day, Halloween and Christmas. In summer at the pool there were friends to chat with and the occasional hot dog or pretzel sale. Health and Welfare sponsors health fairs, a historian who re-enacts famous women, books and puzzles ex- change, flu vaccinations and a visiting nurse who takes residents' blood pressure to name a few of their activities. When the clubhouse was open, we had a group of women who did crafts. There was another group of "artists" exploring different mediums. The clubhouse hosts many different tables of card players and women who play Mah Jongg. We have a prolific group of ladies, The Blanketeers, who knit and crochet afghans and baby things. If you like to be more active, there is line dancing and an exercise class, Healthy Bones. Outside of the club- house there is tennis and pickleball. We have a Trip Committee that plans bus trips.

  • Small Talk – October 21 2020 Required Facial Covering When in Public – Day 89 by Michael Small
Small Talk – October 21 2020 Required Facial Covering When in Public – Day 89 By Michael Small It is less than two weeks (13 days) before the November 3rd election. I dropped my absentee ballot off at the Cass County Court House and after tracking the status of my ballot at https://mnvotes.sos.state.mn.us/AbsenteeBallotStatusResult.aspx it clarified that for the “November 3, 2020, State General Election: Your ballot was accepted on October 9, 2020 and will be counted.” When reading those words, I breathed a sigh of relief. I would hope that 100% of the readers of Small Talk will vote. In Minnesota voting is easy and accessible today! If you want to vote in person, today, you may go to the Cass County Court House and vote. What a privilege, what an honor! Make it so! I want to reassure all of you that we, in Minnesota – in spite of what you see looking out your window – we are still in the middle of the fall season. Though waking up this morning to 3 – 4 inches of new snow challenges that thought. But I knew it was fall because there were newly fallen leaves on top of the freshly fallen snow. Then to top all of this I read that a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for north central Minnesota from Wednesday night through Thursday (10/21–10/22) for 6 – 9 inches of more snow. Every Tuesday, over what would typically be a time for lunch, I participate on-line in a Zoom conversation with MN Conference UCC staff and UCC Clergy throughout the state.
