Sveriges Olympiska Mästarinnor Mot Övriga Världseliten När Curlingsäsongen Drar Igång Med Storinternationell Tävling I Oslo 2006-09-21 12:17 CEST Sveriges olympiska mästarinnor mot övriga världseliten när curlingsäsongen drar igång med storinternationell tävling i Oslo OS-hjältinnorna Anette Norberg, Eva Lund, Cathrine Lindahl och Anna Svärd gör säsongsdebut på is i helgen när de i Oslos storinternationella tävling Weber Cup får ta sig an delar av övriga världseliten. Tävlingen i Oslo har samlat totalt 40 lag, 20 per kön. Anette Norbergs lag har lottats in i en kvalgrupp med Skottlands VM-lag Kelly Wood, Danmarks Camilla Hansen, Schweiz Manuela Kormann samt Rysslands Kozlova. Ett annats svenskt lag är Skellefteås Stina Viktorsson som får möta Kanadas Jennifer Jones, Rysslands juniorvärldsmästarinnor Ludmila Privivkova, Norges JVM-lag Kristin Skaslien samt Schweiz OS-tvåa 2002, Luzia Ebnöther. Övriga damlag att nämna är Kanadas OS-lag i Turin, Shannon Kleibrink och Norges Dordi Nordby. I herrklassen återfinns fyra svenska lag däribland fjolårssegrarna i Weber Cup, Sundbybergs Nils Carlsén som blev femma på VM och tvåa på JVM ifjol. Laget möter i sin kvalgrupp Norges Anders Björgum, Schweiz Stefan Heilmann, Tysklands Christopher Bartsch samt Italiens Gianpaolo Zandegiacomo. Sundsvalls svenska mästarlag Per Carlsén (farbror till Nils), som i december spelar EM för Sverige, får möta Norges europamästarlag Pål Trulsen, Rysslands Bolduzev, Skottlands Keith MacLennan samt Schweiz Thomas Hoch. Sundbybergs andralag med Mathias Carlsson har lottats mot Norges VM-trea Thomas Ulsrud, Rysslands Kirikov, Danmarks Carsten Svendsgaard samt Skottlands juniormästare Logan Gray. Slutligen deltar Härnösands elitserielag Andreas Prytz mot Norges Thomas Lövold, Danmarks Johnny Fredriksen, Tjeckiens Radek Klima samt Skottlands världsmästarlag David Murdoch. Scotland’s David Murdoch was always in control against Sweden’s Niklas Edin and eventually, after blanking five ends, delivered a hack-weight tap-out of a Swedish counter to leave another of his stones lying shot for a 3-2 win. Later Switzerland’s Mirjam Ott edged out Norway’s Marianne Rørvik to start her campaign with a 6-4 win. Elsewhere in the men’s opening session, Germany’s Andy Kapp had an 8-5 win over Ulrik Schmidt’s Danish team, thanks largely to a score of three in the second end, while Thomas Dufour led France to a 6-5 win over Italy’s Stefano Ferronato. The other two games in the men’s opening round both went to extra ends, with Finland’s Toni Rantamäki taking the single needed to beat Jiri Snítel of the Czech Republic by 9-8, as did Thomas Ulsrud of Norway against Switzerland’s Ralph Stöckli for his 8-7 win. In the women’s games, Germany’s Andrea Schöpp took an early three against Sweden’s reigning Olympic champion Anette Norberg and held off the second-half Swedish pressure to win by 7-4.

Event Bidding 10 The third annual World Curling Congress took place in Reno, USA from 4 to 8 September, Deadlines 11 which proved, yet again, to be extremely constructive. Member Associations (MAs) were given the opportunity to meet and discuss important issues face to face, find out about recent World Curling Federation (WCF) activities and meet in Zonal Commissions to discuss regional matters. At the WCF Annual General Assembly a new Board was elected while a number of key changes to the sport were approved.
