Stand # B1 MASTERPIECE 2019 HIGHLIGHTS

Sapiens: Mapping the History of Ideas At this year’s edition of Masterpiece, Les Enluminures will again share a themed stand with Daniel Crouch Rare Books, this time on the subject of "Sapiens: Mapping the History of Ideas”, inspired by Yuval Noah Harari’s best seller "Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind". We have taken seriously Harari's dictum: "We study history not to know the future but to widen our hori- zons”, approaching the theme broadly by selecting important works of art from medieval civilization that resonate with, and expand on, some of the ideas central to Sapiens: Family, Love, and Death.

Enjoy these artworks in our Highlights PDF.

We look forward to welcoming you on our stand #B1.

Family

13 Art, politics, and history come together in a remarkable group of six rings that have been in the family of the Earls of Galloway since their origins The collection constitutes a rich repository of Stuart and Jacobite pictorial and cul- tural history which takes the story of the Stuarts from the execution of 1649 to the death of Prince Charles Edward, and the changing of alliance to the Hanoverian , George III. The rings were acquired directly from the aristocratic Scottish family, descendants of the Earls of Galloway, whose members played critical roles in the unfolding of Stuart and Jacobite history. The last owner of the rings was the father of the last heir to the title Earl of Galloway. th th $150,000Western Europe, 17 -18 century MasterIntimate miniature from a Choir Book 14by an artist close to the prolific Olivetan Olivetan Master Collaborator (active Lombardy, c. -)
