Explanation of Events

• Gala on the Blanc: This year Urban Sprouts will host its Second fundraising gala. • Parent/Teacher Conferences: Signup sheets will go up on your child’s classroom door two weeks prior to conferences starting. Each classroom gets 1-2 days depending on classroom size and you will be able to sign up for a time slot for the particular day for your child’s class. • Early Release/Professional Development: This year we will be closing early at 3p.m. on these highlighted days to provide our staff with professional development. • Great ShakeOut: The Great Shakeout is a statewide earthquake drill. This day reminds us of the importance of taking immediate action. • Imagination Day: To be respectful of all cultures and religions within our program instead of celebrating Halloween we encourage the children to use their imaginations to dress up. At 10am we do a parade around the neighborhood to show off our costumes. • Picture Day: Our picture day this year will be on November 5th and 6th. • Global Holiday Celebration: Classrooms will collaborate in hosting parties celebrating different holidays from cultures all over the world. • Family Work Together Week: Families can sign up to volunteer as you are available during the week for different things. • Valentine & Wine Night: Each year we host this event so that parents can have a fun night to create valentine’s cards for their children. We provide dinner, drinks, and daycare during the event. • Friendship Day: To be respectful of all cultures and religions within our program instead of celebrating Valentine’s Day we celebrate friendship throughout the building. • Literacy Day: We will be celebrating literacy with special activities and readers this day. • WOYC Week of the Young Child: This is an annual celebration hosted by NAEYC that celebrates early learning, young children, their teachers, and families. We will have fun activities all week to celebrate. • Earth Day: We will celebrate earth day this year by getting our gardens ready for the planting season, working on special earth day projects, and will encourage families to participate by volunteering. • Teacher Appreciation Week: Each year we celebrate our staff for a whole week by pampering them! We ask families to donate $25 towards this event and we match every donation so we can properly shower our staff with treats. • Mr. Rogers Kindness Day: The late star of "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" would say to his friends, "1-4-3," which stood for the number of letters in the words "I love you." This day is celebrated on the 143 day of the year. We will be spreading the kindness in honor of Mr. Rogers. • Pre-k Graduation: Our oldest children heading off to Kindergarten in the fall will participate in our Graduation which is held in Heman Park at Centennial Commons from 5:00pm-6:30pm for their families. All graduates must arrive by 4:30 to get dressed and ready for the ceremony. • Multicultural Festival: Our annual Multicultural Festival is a celebration of Urban Sprouts opening its doors. This year we will be celebrating 13 years!!! The festival encourages families to bring a dish to share with the community that reflects your culture or family’s favorite dish. • First Water Play Day: We will start the first day of Summer with day of water play. We will have water play throughout the Summer. • International Mud Day: Every year on June 29th, children from all over the world celebrate International Mud Day as a way to connect and celebrate the natural joys of playing in the mud! We will be playing in the mud this day so bring clothes for your child that you don’t mind getting super dirty!
