The Department of Census and Statistics is bringing out, for the first time, a Statistical Compendium containing demographic, socio and economic data of Eastern Province, Sri Lanka. The main objective of this publication is to produce a comprehensive set of data on several important areas such as Land area, Population, Labour and Employment, Poverty, Agriculture, Industries, Education and Health. This publication will be immensely useful for the various officials working in Eastern Province in connection with the ongoing "Negenahira Nawodaya" development programme.

Every effort were made to give most comprehensive and upto date information by DS Division wise when ever possible.

Any suggestions for the improvement of this publication by the users of the data are most welcome
