36-HOLE CUT: 77 out of 144 professionals at 1-over 143.

Sang-Moon Bae, 67-66=133 (-9), 1 st Sang-Moon Bae continues his solid play at The Riviera Country Club, posting a bogey-free 66 (-5) in round two to move to the top of the leaderboard. In his Northern Trust Open debut last year, Bae carded rounds of 68-65- 76-67 to finish T8. He was the 36-hole leader with .

This is only the second time in Bae’s career that he has held the outright lead at any point during a PGA TOUR event. He led the 2014 after a 63 in round one; he followed with rounds of 70-70-70 to finish T32.

Bae, winner of the 2013 HP Championship, is looking for his first top-10 finish on TOUR since that victory, a streak of 19 events. In fact, his only other top 10 of the 2013 season, other than his victory, was the T8 here at Open.

With rounds of 67-66, this marks the first time Bae has opened with two rounds in the 60s since his HP Byron Nelson Championship victory (66-66-66-69).

Bae’s best finish thus far of the 2013-14 season is a T21 at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

The Northern Trust Open has been won by an international player 15 times, but never by a player from Korea.

Bae is the only player who has teed it up in all seven PGA TOUR events played thus far in 2014.

Aaron Baddeley, 69-65=136 (-8), T2 Aaron Baddeley, winner of the Northern Trust Open in 2011, carded his best-ever career round at The Riviera Country Club in 42 attempts with a 65 (-6) in round two. His previous low at the Northern Trust Open was a 66 in 2004 (R2) and in 2012 (R3).

The 65 is Baddeley’s lowest round on the PGA TOUR since he opened the 2013 season at the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation with a 64.

Baddeley had only one par on the back nine in Round 2 (No. 14), as he birdied 11, 13 and finished with four- straight birdies on holes No. 15-18. He made bogey on No. 10 and 12.

Baddeley leads the field in Strokes Gained-Putting with 7.380 through two rounds. Blake Adams is second at 6.329.

This marks the fourth time Baddeley has opened the Northern Trust Open with two rounds in the 60s in 12 starts: • 2005 – 69-67 – T7 (event was rain-shortened to 36 holes) • 2007 – 68-69-70-70 – T13 • 2011 – 67-69-67-69 – Won • 2014 – 69-65

Baddeley’s best finish of the 2013-14 season thus far was fifth place at the CIMB Classic in Malaysia. A win this week would make Baddeley the 17 th player with more than one Northern Trust Open title and first since Phil Mickelson (2008, 2009).

Four-Time Winners: • MacDonald Smith (1928, 1929, 1932, 1934) • (1949, 1951, 1953, 1956) Three-Time Winners: • (1942, 1947, 1948) • Arnold Palmer (1963, 1966, 1967) Two-Time Winners: • Harry Cooper (1926, 1937) • (1945, 1950) • Paul Harney (1964, 1965) • (1968, 1970) • Gil Morgan (1978, 1983) • (1979, 1985) • Tom Watson (1980, 1982) • (1990, 1992) • Corey Pavin (1994, 1995) • Mike Weir (2003, 2004) • Phil Mickelson (2008, 2009)

Robert Garrigus, 67-67=134 (-8), T2 Robert Garrigus is playing in his ninth event of the season and looking for his first top-10 finish. His last top-10 finish came nearly a year ago, when he finished T5 at the World Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship. Garrigus is playing in the Northern Trust Open for the fifth time in his career. He has made the cut only once before (2001, finished T51).

This is the first time Garrigus has posted back-to-back under-par rounds at the Northern Trust Open, matching his career-low (at Riviera) 67 in round one with another in round two. Garrigus last opened an event with two rounds in the 60s at the 2013 Wyndham Championship, where he finished T11.

Tied for second entering the third round is the best position Garrigus has held after 36 holes since the 2012 AT&T National (finished T4).

Charlie Beljan, 67-68=135 (-7), 4 th Charlie Beljan, last year’s runner up, is back in the hunt again after rounds of 67-68 to open his second Northern Trust Open start.

Beljan lost to -native last year after a two-hole, sudden-death playoff. Beljan and Merrick both made par on the first playoff hole (No. 18), then Beljan missed a 6-footer for par on No. 10 to give Merrick the win. It was Beljan’s only top-10 finish of the 2013 season.

A win this week would make Beljan the sixth player in Northern Trust Open’s 88-year history to win the year after finishing second or T2: • Byron Nelson, 1945 runner-up, 1946 win • Ben Hogan, 1946 runner-up, 1947 win • Lloyd Mangrum, 1948 runner-up, 1948 win • Phil Mickelson, 2007 runner-up, 2008 win • Steve Stricker, 2009 runner-up, 2010 win

Jason Allred, 73-64=137 (-5), T9 Pepperdine graduate Jason Allred carded a 66 to Monday qualify for the Northern Trust Open and earn his first start on the PGA TOUR since the 2010 U.S. Open, where he tied for 47th. He continued that momentum in round two with nine birdies through 14 holes before a bogey on 15 and 16 left him with a 64 (-7), good enough for the best round of the tournament thus far and to move into the top 10 heading into the weekend.

The last to win a tournament was at the 2010 Wyndham Championship. Prior to that, it was Fred Wadsworth at the 1986 Southern Open.

Allred's wife is two weeks from having the couple’s third child. He said after his round today, “If I get that call, I'll be out of here in a minute.”

Allred is one of three Pepperdine University alums in the field this week, along with fellow-Monday qualifier . Here are local alums in the field this year (Thursday was Pepperdine Day; Friday was USC Day; Sunday is UCLA Day): Michael Putnam Pepperdine University T68 Jason Gore Pepperdine University T32 Jason Allred Pepperdine University T9 T40 Kevin Chappell UCLA MC John Merrick UCLA T14 University of Southern California

Harold Varner III, who was the first player in East Carolina University history to be named Conference USA Golfer of the Year in 2012, is looking to become the second Northern Trust Open Exemption recipient to make the cut (Jeremiah Wooding, 2013, T42). Varner’s 69 in the first round was the second-lowest round by a Northern Trust Open Exemption recipient (Jeremiah Wooding, 66, round 2, 2013). He is currently T40 after round two.

Varner has full status on Web.com Tour this season after finishing T32 at the final stage of the Web.com Tour Qualifying Tournament. In 2007, he won the Nature Valley First Tee Open as a junior with Champions Tour pro and teammate Morris Hatalsky. Varner, 23, was chosen from a pool of applicants to receive the exemption, created and sponsored by Northern Trust. The annual exemption provides an opportunity for a top golfer who represents the advancement of diversity in golf and wouldn’t otherwise be eligible to compete in the event. Varner is the sixth recipient of the Northern Trust Open Exemption, following Vincent Johnson (2009), Joshua Wooding (2010), Joseph Bramlett (2011), Andy Walker (2012) and Jeremiah Wooding (2013).
