Xavier High School Trip

Dear Parents/Guardians, Greetings from Xavier!! I am delighted that your son wishes to participate in this adventure. The Costa Rica trip will be a physical adventure involving rafting, canyon rappelling, hiking, a canopy tour, and snorkeling (some of the activities are optional, but they are once in a lifetime experiences).

FAQ’s

Who can participate? Any student who submits an application may travel with ​ us. Incoming freshmen may register in the fall if space is available. If the incoming freshman is a brother or relative of a student who is planning on traveling, he may register now.

When will we travel? During February break from Saturday ​ morning Feb 15th -- 24th.

What is the cost? The total amount is $3400. This includes airfare, ​ double-occupancy hotel, all meals, private transport, tour guide, itinerary activities, border taxes, and tips for the guides and driver.

What is the itinerary? - D1 Arrive and enjoy the city of San ​ Jose -- Irazu Best Western.

- D2 Breakfast and transfer to Aguas Bravas for rafting tour and lunch. Leaf cutter ant farm tour. Transfer to El Tucano. Hot springs and dinner at hotel.

- D3 Breakfast and depart canyoning tour with included lunch. Tour to La Fortuna’s waterfalls . Back to El Tucano for dinner.

- D4 Breakfast and depart for . Lunch at Bar Amigos in Santa Elena. Check into hotel, relax and play some soccer. Dinner at Amy’s in Santa Elena. Night hike in Monteverde.

- D5 Breakfast and depart to SelvaTura for Canopy tour, hummingbird park, and skybridge hike. Lunch in Santa Elena. Afternoon hike in Santa Elena reserve or other activity. Dinner at Amy’s.

-D6 All day work at Escuela Cañitas Elementary doing repairs and painting. Dinner with the school community. - D7 Breakfast and depart for Jaco Beach. Crocodile bridge or Iguana gift shop. Check in at Best Western Jaco and enjoy the beach and pool. Free afternoon and evening at the resort.

- D8 Tour to Manuel Antonio’s National Park, Catamaran tour off and snorkeling in the afternoon. Dinner and sunset on the boat. Return to Jaco for the overnight.

- D9 Return to San Jose to attend soccer match of the Costa Rica Premier League

- D10 Breakfast and transfer to the airport in San Jose

How do I register my son? To complete registration, return the Contract form ​ signed to Mr. Chiafulio along with a check for $400 made out to Xavier High School. In the memo section of the check be sure to write “Costa Rica Trip”. This $400 will serve as the first of five payments to cover the $3400 balance.

How do I make payments? All payments should be made by either mailing a ​ check (made out to Xavier High School) to Mr. Chiafulio at the school address or by delivering the check to me via your son. The balance can be paid in full at anytime before the deadlines.

Payment agreement. Four payments of $750 after the initial $400 ​ registration payment. - 1st payment upon registration preferably by April 1, 2019 - 2nd Payment by June 1, 2019 - 3rd Payment on September 1, 2019 - 4th Payment on October 1, 2019 - Final payment on November 1, 2019

What is the cancellation policy? Cancellation policy. In the event that my ​ son is expelled from Xavier High School or forbidden to travel on the trip due to discipline actions taken by Xavier high School, the following refund schedule will still be in effect. If the trip is cancelled in writing or my son is forbidden to take the trip by Xavier High School on or before December 13th a full refund will be given. If the trip is cancelled in writing or my son is forbidden to take the trip by Xavier High School after December 13th and on or before January 13th a 15% refund will be given. If the trip is cancelled in writing or my son is forbidden to take the trip by Xavier High School after January 13th no refund will be given. Is there a planning meeting? There will be a formal planning and parent ​ meeting in December closer to our departure.
