In those days, Branson entertainment consisted of lake/outdoor activities, Silver Dollar City, The Shepherd of the Hills homestead, a handful of music shows, and a few other activities. After a successful opening on Memorial Day Weekend in 1981, Lee and his partners were confident that go-karts and other family fun activities would complement Branson’s other offerings for years to come. With the first location established (now Track 3, across from the Andy Williams Theatre), the team built additional locations over the next several years.     ACE’s Scandinavian Sojourn : A Southerner’s Perspective Story by: Richard Bostic, assisted by Ronny Cook When I went on the ACEspana trip back in 2009, it was by far one of the most amazing vacations I have ever experienced. In addition to getting to visit parks in a different culture than we see here, it is also a great opportunity to spend time with fellow enthusiasts and grow friendships while enjoying our common interests. When Scandinavia Sojourn was announced for the summer of 2011, I knew it was a trip I could not miss. Since the 2009 trip was my first trip to Europe I thought that there was no way the over- all experience could be better in Scandinavia. I was wrong. We landed in Helsinki, Finland around 1300 the day before we were required to be at the hotel to meet with the group. Helsinki is an interesting city and fairly new compared to many cities in Europe. Walking around the city you can see the Russian influence in the city’s architecture. In fact, many movies during the cold war would use Helsinki to shoot scenes that are supposed to be set in the Soviet Union. After making our way to the Crowne Plaza Hotel and getting a quick lunch at the hotel restaurant we decided to spend the remaining time that afternoon checking out some of the sites around our hotel. Some of these sites included the Temppeliaukio Church inside of a rock formation, the train station, Routatientori Square and National Theater, and a couple of the city’s art museums.

Amusement Park Physics Amusement Park Physics and the new Secondary School Curriculum In the past 18 months, the educational system has seen a shift in the science curriculum and changes to how that curriculum is delivered. The current curriculum is more inquiry based with a focus on questioning, predicting, communication, planning and conducting investigations. In addition, students are asked to analyse not only the data they collect, but also the process that was used to collect the data. The curriculum for Science 8 has changed. Although forces are not directly in the current Grade 8 curriculum, inquiry and investigation are at the forefront. Amusement Park Physics can now be applied to any number of classes as they all include an inquiry / investigative component. Teachers are able to adapt or enhance the curriculum packages currently supplied by Amusement Park Physics as they see fit. This gives you, as an educator, tremendous flexibility in terms of how you and your class spend your time at Playland. You could focus on one ride and do an in-depth study or perhaps investigate similar rides and compare them.

    ACCESSIBILITY INFORMATION Along with our Park Map & Guide Brochure, this guide provides Guests with Parking: (standard parking rates apply) Accessible parking is available on a Disabilities an overview of services and first-come, first-serve basis within the main parking lot of the Park. A valid facilities available to them while visiting disabled persons parking placard or license plate must be displayed at all times. Wild Waves Theme & Water Park Restrooms: Most restrooms within the Park are accessible for Guests using wheelchairs. Please check the park map for locations. Companion restroom facilities are also available. Wheelchairs and Electric Convenience Vehicles (ECV’s): Guests may use their own wheelchairs or ECV’s. Many attractions have queues that are accessible to Guests using manual wheelchairs. ALL rides require transfer from the wheelchair to a ride seat. Alternate Access: Most of the Park’s attractions, restaurants, and shops are accessible to wheelchairs. Special access entrances are available to accommodate Guests with mobility aides and service animals. These special entrances are generally at the ride exit. If you require the use of alternate access to enter a ride, please visit Guest Relations to obtain a Guest Assistance Card. Alternate access is available for the Guest requiring the alternate access and up to a maximum of 3 companions. The Guest with an Assistance Card must ride in order for their companions to utilize the alternate access. If the Guest with an Assistance Card chooses not to ride, their companions must wait in the standard queue. Entry, exit, and transfer must be accomplished independently by the Guest or with the assistance from a member of their party.
