The formulas for Mw and Me calculation are presented in a 15 way that reveals, besides the contributions of the physically defined measurement parameters 16 seismic moment M0 and radiated seismic energy ES, the role of the constants in the classical 17 Gutenberg-Richter magnitude-energy relationship.
