Ein Vergleich mit heute ist schier unmöglich, wenngleich mit dem legendären Joe Davis nicht nur der Initiator des Turniers, sondern gleichzeitig der für die nächsten achtzehn Jahre unschlagbare Meister dieses Sports die Trophäe sowie ₤6 10s gewann. Snooker war noch kein Breitensport, die Tische, Kugeln und Queues nicht von der heutigen Qualität und die Weltmeisterschaft trotz aller Perfektion der Champions nur eine Randnotiz in den internationalen Gazetten. Der absolute Tiefpunkt wurde in den Fünfzigerjahren erreicht, als 1952 zwei Organisationen Weltmeisterschaftsturniere veranstalteten, die Billiard Association eine „offizielle“ mit sage und schreibe zwei (!) Teilnehmern. Zwischen 1952 und 1957 fanden mäßig beachtete Matchplay- Weltturniere statt, danach erlosch das Snookerleben auf WM-Niveau für einige Jahre vollkommen. Ab 1964 waren die unregelmäßig ausgetragenen Challenge-Turniere, die alle an den Titelverteidiger John Pulman gingen, die Krönung des bescheiden dahin dümpelnden Snookerjahres. Moderne Zeiten … Crucible Theatre … Erst mit Ende der Sechzigerjahre ging man zum Knockout-Format zurück, das bei den folgenden acht Turnieren mit John Spencer, Ray Reardon und Alex Higgins drei Allzeitgrößen der Snookergeschichte zu Titelehren führte. Ab dieser Zeit darf man vom modernen Snooker sprechen, wenngleich die meisten Snooker-Kommentatoren erst ab den Turnieren von 1976 den großen Durchbruch zum Massensport zu erkennen glauben. Nun waren die WM-Matches nicht mehr über die gesamte Saison verteilt, sondern wurden über circa zwei Wochen an einem Ort durchgeführt. The children, mostly teenagers, pulled up as many of the wire snares as they could in the time they had on a recent outing. They later called The Narnibian to alert others to this threat to wildlife. The wire snares are fastened to trees and aim to catch a kudu around the neck as they pass. Crudely made, the snares could take a long time to strangle the animal. Thekudus are first chiumelled into particular paths by cut HORROR KILLING ... People look on in shock and disbelief at a young man who had his throat slit in broad thorn bushes and forced to jump at particular points to avoid daylight in Independence Avenue in the centre ofWindhoek at around midday on Friday.     Archival Rugby Archival Rugby Rugby was first played in England two hundred years before three boys set down the first set of rugby rules in 1845 in Rugby School in England. The Nelson Football Club introduced rugby union to New Zealand by adopting ARCHIVAL the code in 1870. On Saturday, 14 May 1870, Nelson College played Nelson Club (“The Town” it was called) at the Botanical Reserve, Nelson.
