Still in love with her, Apollo vowed to always wear a crown of laurel. As the originator of the Pythian games, and as the god of poetry, he swore to crown all victors, heroes and poets with wreaths woven of laurel leaves.

The leaf of the laurel tree is also known as the bay leaf (dafni, in Greek). It is an essential ingredient in many cuisines, especially those of the Mediter - ranean. Used either fresh of dried, the leaves impart a subtle but distinctive flavor and fragrance to food. On behalf of Dafni we welcome you and wish you Καλή Ορεξη!

“Therefore we must pay closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it (Hebrews 2.1).”

Growing up in Christian homes and being raised by our parents and grandparents in the Greek Orthodox Christian faith, we learn that the Christian life entails being kind to others, and being generous to those in need.

The Church teaches us to try putting these principles into practice all year round. But there are certain times of year when we are granted an opportunity to be more mindful than usual of what we were taught as children, and Easter is one of those times.

The Lord came to redeem, but He also came to serve. And that’s what International Orthodox Christian Charities is all about: service to others in need. IOCC practices what the Church teaches each and every day all over the world, and the Rangos Foundation is happy and proud to support this remarkable agency’s philanthropic efforts.

As we all rejoice in the Resurrection, let us also remember that our brothers and sisters in Greece are contending with severe hardship induced by a collapsed economy, and try to help them feel uplifted by giving to IOCC’s “Give for Greece” program, which is helping thousands of vulnerable families put more than a million pounds of fresh and dry food on their tables, as well as distributing millions in medical supplies and equipment to hospitals in greater Athens.

If we can’t be there to help our overseas brethren ourselves, we can trust IOCC to do so on our behalf. Please be assured that, by giving to IOCC, your donations will be put to good and effective use. The Rangos Family warmly wishes the Greek American community a Happy Easter.
