A scattered village situated on the Avon, Christian Malford is three miles from Dauntsey Station on the G.W.R., six from Chippenham, and eight from Wootton Bassett, and is in the Chippenham Division of Wilts Union, Petty Sessional Division and County Court District of Chippenham, and Diocese of Bristol. The register of All Saints' Church dates from 1653; the earlier register was burned in 1693/ The living, which is a rectory, with a yearly value of £596, with residence, is in the gift of the Bishop of Bristol. There is a small Manor attached to the Rectory. The church is noted for its very fine Norman font and two remarkable 16th century screens. It is now lighted by electricity. There is a Congregational Chapel. The inhabitants have erected a handsome Cross in memory of the men of the village who fell in the Great War. There is a spacious Village Hall with games and entertainment rooms. A Railway Halt has been erected in the parish. Area, 2,918 acres; rateable value £8,357; population in 1921, 488;, including part of Bradenstoke. Letters are received from Chippenham, and are despatched at 10.30 a.m. and 7.35 p.m. No delivery or despatch on Sundays. The nearest Money Order and Telegraph Office is ay Sutton Benger. Postal orders are issued and paid here.
