August 4, 2017: Berlin, Welcome to Berlin! A group transfer is provided into the city. Sightseeing with a Local Guide in the once- divided metropolis includes the restored Reichstag, a picture stop at monumental Brandenburg Gate, the East Side Gallery, the Holocaust Memorial, the State Opera House and Checkpoint Charlie. Also drive along Unter den Linden Boulevard and visit the KAISER WILHELM MEMORIAL CHURCH with its bomb-damaged spire. At 6 pm, meet your Tour Director and traveling companions, and begin your fellowship at this evening’s welcome dinner with wine at your hotel. (Dinner)

August 5, 2017: Berlin – Wittenberg – Leipzig. Continue to Wittenberg, Martin Luther’s hometown for more than 30 years and birthplace of the Reformation. Enjoy a guided walking tour and see the Luther House, where Martin Luther and his family lived. Also visit ST. MARY’S CHURCH, a twin-towered gothic church where Luther preached reform, got married, and baptized his six children. Finally, see the door of Castle Church, where Luther posted his 95 Theses, launching the Reformation in 1517. A special visit has been included to the renaissance- style MELANCHTHON HOUSE, built in 1536 and today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This 3-story architectural jewel was gifted to Philipp Melanchthon, Luther’s closest friend and “Teacher of Germany,” to entice him to remain at the local university. Enjoy some time at leisure to further explore the area. This evening, transfers will be provided to a local church where your Pastor has arranged to lead worship. Afterwards, a late transfer to Leipzig. (Breakfast, Dinner)

August 6, 2017: Leipzig – Eisleben – Erfurt Start the day with a walking tour of Leipzig and visit the THOMASKIRCHE, where Johann Sebastian Bach worked as a cantor. Also visit the market square that today is a site for celebrations and festivals, but once was the scene of executions and political demonstrations. Stop in Eisleben, where Luther’s life began and ended. Visit his BIRTH HOUSE and DEATH HOUSE MUSEUMS, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites; as well as ST. PETER & PAUL CHURCH, where Luther was baptized, and ST. ANDREW’S CHURCH, where Luther preached his last sermon in 1546. Later, drive to Erfurt, whose 36 churches, 15 monasteries, and other ecclesiastical buildings have earned it the nickname “Thuringian Rome.” (Breakfast)

August 7, 2017: Erfurt The beautiful Old Town preserves the atmosphere Luther must have experienced during his student days. A highlight is an inspirational visit to the AUGUSTINIAN MONASTERY where Luther lived as a monk, and the unique MERCHANTS’ BRIDGE, lined with half-timbered homes on both sides. The remainder of the day si at leisure. (Breakfast, Dinner)

August 8, 2017: Erfurt – Coburg – Mainz Continue south today to Coburg and visit fascinating COBURG FORTRESS, where Luther lived, protected, during the Imperial Diet of in 1530. Asn a outlaw of the Holy Roman Empire, he could not attend the Imperial Diet of Augsburg, but instead spent his time translating the Bible into German and writing on Reformation issues. Continue to Mainz. Upon arrival, visit the GUTENBERG MUSEUM which houses original copies of the Bible. (Breakfast, Dinner)

�� August 9, 2017: Mainz. Excursion to Worms & The Rhine Valley In Worms, where the Imperial Council passed judgment on Luther in 1521, visit the CATHEDRAL where Luther presented his case, as well as TRINITY CHURCH and the REFORMATION MONUMENT. Later, reflect on the beauty during a scenic RHINE CRUISE past castle-crested cliffs, terraced vineyards, and half-timbered towns. The evening is at leisure. (Breakfast)

August 10, 2017: Mainz – Rothenburg – Nuremberg Head to the medieval walled town of Rothenburg, where your walking tour visits ST. JACOB’S CHURCH with its masterpiece Altar of the Holy Blood. Afterwards, there is otime t shop for the town’s famed Christmas ornaments. On to Nuremberg, the first town to accept the Reformation in 1525. Your walking tour features the gothic ST. LORENZ LUTHERAN CHURCH, where you can pause for quiet meditation. Finally, visit the NUREMBERG CASTLE. (Breakfast, Dinner)

August 11, 2017: Nuremberg – Augsburg – Dachau – In Augsburg, guided sightseeing reveals the city where Luther and his followers proclaimed their faith. Also visit the CHURCH OF ST. ANNA. Next, a guided visit of the former Dachau CONCENTRATION CAMP site, which started out as a work camp for German dissidents. Then on to Munich for the next two nights. (Breakfast, Dinner)

August 12, 2017: Munich. Excursions to , Linderhof Castle and Travel south to visit Ettal and the surrounding areas. Stop at the massive ETTAL ABBEY. With a population of more than 50 monks, the Abbey is one of the larger Benedictine houses. Next on to LINDERHOF CASTLE, the smallest of the three Bavarian fairytale palaces commissioned by King Ludwig II and inspired by Louis XIV’s Versailles. The rococo-style Linderhof is surrounded by splendid Italian Renaissance gardens with landscaped sections similar to an English garden. Then proceed to OBERAMMERGAU, the Passion Play Village. World famous for the play performed by its residents just once every decade, the village has kept its pledge made nearly 400 years ago. The reenactment of the crucifixion of Christ preserves the health and well-being of its residents to this day. Return to Munich, where no visit to Germany would be complete without a stop at the famous HOFBRÄUHAUS. A fantastic farewell dinner will be provided and is a perfect end to your trip.
