Survey on Analyzing the Causes of Truancy in School Setting
The students of department of psychology had conducted a survey to analyze causes of truancy in school settings. A sample of 306 students of KMHSS School, Malappuram were administered with 102 questions on 21/11/2018. Prior permission was taken from the school authority to conduct a survey. All of the students belonged to the age category
9 to 12, which is considered as the phase of late childhood. The questions were designed as such which aims at determining the possible causal factors of truancy. The factors were titled under five subheadings: Attitude, behaviour, school atmosphere, peer group influence and parenting. Based on the primary analysis, 31 questions were omitted and the rest 71 questions were administered to the same sample. It was found that school atmosphere is a major determinant of truancy followed by parenting, attitude and peer influence. Media is shown to have comparatively a lesser determinant of truancy. The survey was effective in knowing the causal factors of truancy and is an introductory to various methods which can be implemented to prevent truancy.

RESEARCH ORIENTED INVITED TALK REPORT – 2018
On 14th November, 2018 Department of Commerce conducted a valuable Research oriented invited Talk for IIIrd DCBCOM & IInd PG MCOM students.Dr. Preema Rose Nichlavose ,Assistant Professor & Research Guide Vimala College (Autonomous), P.G. Department of Commerce and Research Centre Thrissur was the resource person for the day. It was an informative session with two hours duration. Her talk was really informative. It was very helpful for preparing final year projects.
SEMINAR ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
On 15th February 2019, Department of Commerce, St. Mary’s college conducted a seminar on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) .The session was handled by Sir VP Balagangadharan (Scientist, Indian Space Research Organization.)He gave detailed explanation about patents, copyrights and trademarks. He explained about IPR Act and its impact on Indian markets. He presented an impactful power point presentation for the students. At the end of the session, Angel Sebastian from 3rd. B.com expressed her valuable opinion about the class. The programme was concluded by vote of thanks delivered by Priyanka Rajan Chirayath of 2nd B.com. A total of 132 students were engaged in this programme.
NATIONAL SEMINAR REPORT
On 18th July 2018 the Post Graduate Department of Commerce was conducted a national seminar on the topic “INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL REPORTING STANDARDS”. The session was inaugurated by Mr. T G Sugunan, CMA, Brahmos Aerospace, Trivandrum and he also provided a valuable talk on IFRS. The second session was handled by Mr. Abhilash K S, Lead financial specialist, E-Power India Ltd, Uttar Pradesh. He gave an insight on the application of IFRS in accounting practices. The afternoon session unfolded with the paper presentations on the topic IFRS. That session was chaired and judged by Dr. Murali E, HOD, Commerce department, Sri.C Achuthamenon Govt.College, Kuttanellur.
Seminar on Risk Management in LIC As part of industry academia practice Department of Commerce conducted a session on February 8, 2019 on topic’ risk management’ .The programme was mainly organized for M.com and final Bcom students. The session began at 9.00 a.m. by seeking the blessings of almighty followed by warm welcome by Ms. Sneha Silvester(faculty, dept. of commerce).The resource person of the programme was Mr.Aju Mathews (Manager, sales/CLIA,LIC,Thrissur). Primarily the resource person gave a brief introduction about insurance and he also explained about how the risk can be minimized through insurance. The seminar enabled students to enhance their practical knowledge in insurance industy as well to get equipped with their academic syllabus. Heemphasized on various avenues and opportunities in insurance sector and its benefits. The session was concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Ancy M G of 3rd Bcom. 8/02/2019
