New Trier High School Jazz Ensemble ”Hey NOLA, we didn’t forget your!” Project- As of March 21, 2008 (with TV show) SATURDAY (March 22, 2008) - Meet at New Trier at 11 a.m. - Leave for O’Hare at 11:30 a.m. to take American Airlines flight #1447 departing at 2 p.m. - Arrive Louis Armstrong International Airport at 4:15 p.m. - Charter bus transport to Camp Hope to arrive in time for dinner (5:30-7 p.m.) FYI- it is a 30-40 minute drive from Camp Hope to downtown New Orleans or the airport. - Evening to settle in. SUNDAY (Easter Sunday- March 23, 2008) - Those wishing to go to church meet at 8:00 a.m. to that bus and attend an Easter Service at a New Orleans church as guests of a NOLA high school band director. (It is the “Sixth Baptist Church” at 930 Felicity St. in New Orleans. Service from 9:30- 11:30 a.m. I am told by Elijah Brimmer, the band director from Cohen High School who invited us to expect their choir to give a rousing performance for Easter!) No need for ties. Tennis shoes OK. Those going to church will find something to eat for breakfast (you pay) along the way. The service is from 9-11 a.m. and lunch will be at a restaurant (you pay) with the director’s family after the service ends at 11 a.m. We will meet everyone else at the Audubon Aquarium around 1:30 p.m. - Everyone else- eat Camp Hope brunch that begins at 11 a.m. - Leave from Camp Hope at 12:15 p.m. by bus for an afternoon in the French Quarter. (Bus not needed again until 10 p.m. after the Creole Queen Cruise .) - 1:30- 2:30 p.m. - Audubon Aquarium (covered in your tour payment) This underwater adventure includes a replica of an offshore rig, huge sharks, penguins, and the world’s largest collection of jellyfish. This aquarium is rated in the top 5 in the U.S. - 3:00- 3:40 p.m. Omnimax Theater (adjacent to Aquarium ) to see “Hurricane on the Bayou” (covered in your tour payment) This amazing IMAX film tells the story of Hurricane Katrina and the impact of Louisiana’s disappearing wetlands on hurricane protection. It also shows the survival of a region, the rebirth of nature and the spirit of humanity. - 4 p.m.- Brandon and Mr. Warrick goes to pickup the instruments we will borrow at N.O. Music Exchange (3342 Magazine St. 504-891-7670) - 3:40- 7:30 p.m.- Explore French Quarter on foot in group minimums of 3 - 7:15 p.m.- Jeff Coffin arrives at airport. (Flight 346- Southwest Airlines) - 7:30 p.m.- Board riverboat for dinner jazz cruise on the Creole Queen from 8-10 p.m. (Covered in your tour payment.) DINNER MENU New Orleans Gumbo Jambalaya Creole Chicken Smothered in a Garlic Sauce Cajun Braised Beef Brisket Vegetables of the Day Cajun Potatoes Paddlewheeler Bread Pudding with white chocolate sauce New Orleans Dark Coffee Bread and Butter Iced Tea (Southern Sweet Tea) - Leave by bus at approximately 10 p.m. to return to Camp Hope by 11 p.m. MONDAY (March 24, 2008) - Breakfast (6-7:30 a.m.) at Camp Hope - Leave Camp Hope by bus at 9:15 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.- Arrive to setup for concert at Tipitina’s in the French Quarter. This the largest indoor concert site in the French Quarter with seating for as many as 300. It was built in the early 1800’s. - Lunch on your own in the French Quarter (you pay) - 1:00- 2:30 p.m.- Private concert at Tipitina’s (French Quarter) with Jeff Coffin. NOLA high school band students to be bused in. Distribution of prom dresses/tuxes. (Open to NT parents with prior arrangements.) -Afternoon guided bus tour beginning approximately at 3:00 p.m. of the New Orleans area to see the landmarks and storm devastation that still exists. - 4 p.m.- Warrick goes to TV studio to work on details - Return to Tipitina’s in time for dinner in the French Quarter (you pay) - 7:00- 8:15 p.m. Concert open to the public (with Jeff Coffin) - 9:00- 10:15 p.m. Concert open to the public (with Jeff Coffin) - Return by bus to Camp Hope after the concert. New Trier Jazz Ensemble New Orleans Trip Con’t -2- TUESDAY (March 25, 2008) - QUIETLY get up and leave at 5 a.m. - Breakfast on the bus - Arrive WWL-TV (CBS channel 4) 1024 N. Rampart St.- Setup quickly while show is in progress - Perform between 7-9 a.m. I am told the show will be webcast LIVE on: wwltv.com - Leave for Musician’s Village immediately after the TV show to work. - Lunch brought in by the “Truckers” at Musician’s Village since we can’t pack it that morning. - Leave worksite by bus at 3:30 p.m. to return to Camp Hope TO REST (Nappy Nap!!!!) - Dinner (5:30-7 p.m.) at Camp Hope - (Not yet confirmed) Meet at 6:30 p.m. with Tom Piazzo, author of “Why New Orleans Matters”, followed by concert prep. - Evening concert for as many as 700 volunteers at CAMP HOPE beginning at 8:15 p.m. with Jeff Coffin (Open to NT parents visiting NOLA with prior arrangements. St. Bernard, Louisiana WEDNESDAY (March 26, 2008) – WEAR TOUR SHIRTS - Breakfast (6-7:30 a.m.) at Camp Hope - Leave by bus at 7:15 a.m. to begin work in Musicians’ Village by 8:00 a.m. - Sack lunch and noontime concert in Musicians’ Village on th e street (with Jeff Coffin) (Jeff Coffin leaves Southwest flight 562 at 3:40 p.m.) - Leave at 3:30 for Camp Hope to eat dinner. - Leave at 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.- Arrive at “Ray’s Boom Boom Room” to setup for concert. - 8:15 p.m.- 9:30 p.m.- Public benefit concert to rai se money for the St. Bernard Community Center. The concert will be at “Ray’s Boom Boom Room” in the French Quarter. Those who want to can probably return to Camp Hope for a more restful evening.
