LANDFILL CAPPING KALAMPAKI,DOXATO, DRAMA, GREECE LANDFILLS Product: Geosynthetic GCL Barrier MACLINE GCL W21, Geotextile Mactex BN CASE HISTORY Ref: GR / CH / EP00 — Rev:03, January 13 LANDFILL CAPPING KALAMPAKI,DOXATO, DRAMA, GREECE LANDFILLS Product: Geosynthetic GCL barrier MACLINE GCL W21, Geotextile Mactex BN Problem The problem that had to be faced in this project is the rehabil- itation of Kalampaki and Doxato landfills, not far from the city of Drama. This is a task of great importance for the wider area of the Municipality, as these landfills were the final destination of the waste after the collection. So the rehabilitation of the cell, after the deposition of waste was essential. Solution Geosynthetic GCL barrier MACLINE GCL W21 was used in the project of Kalabaki and Doxato landfill. The Macline rolls were placed on the final cover of the landfill cell in order to adequately seal off the waste water of the landfill. Maccaferri Hellas, considered that this was an ideal ap- plication for MACLINE GCL W21 (bentonite content 5 kg and MACLINE GCL W21 polypropylene geotextiles on both sides) as it provides suffi- cient sealing capacity and meets the require- ments according to the project design. Geotextile MACTEX BN16.1 was also used in this project in order to separate the rainwater drainage layer from the top soil cover. So the full package of this capping application, starting from the top of the waste is consisted of: 1) Sand — gravel layer (biogas layer) 2) Macline GCL W21 (waterproofing layer) 3) Sand— gravel layer (rain water drainage system) 4) Mactex BN 16.1 (separation layer) 5) Vegetative soil layer (final layer) During construction Designer: LOCAL AUTHORITY OF DRAMA AREA Products used: MACLINE GCL W21– MACTEX BN 16.1 Date of construction During construction SPRING 2012 - 2013 Project section Date: April 2012 During construction During construction © Maccaferri. • Xanthippi Kotz Ag Ео Rg I- Georgios A. Kazam I As the Bulgarian Occupation of the Prefecture of Drama (1941-1944) and Its Cons
XANTHIPPI KOTZ AG ЕО RG I- GEORGIOS A. KAZAM I AS THE BULGARIAN OCCUPATION OF THE PREFECTURE OF DRAMA (1941-1944) AND ITS CONSEQUENCES ON THE GREEK POPULATION ■*£->·- The Bulgarian occupation of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace during World War II is a subject as complex and sensitive as it is tragic, and yet it was dealt with by Greek writers only during the decades of the 1940’s and 1950’s. A study of the bibliography of this time leads U9 to the following unavoidable observations: a) The people that dealt with and wrote about the issue of the Bulgarian occupation were directly involved—by position or by nature—in the situation when and where it occurred, b) In many of the works which deal with the issue there is no desire to approach it scientifically, c) A strong nationalistic, disorienting tone is inherent in most of these works, d) Many of the relevant works draw so heavily upon previous authors that it is often difficult to speak of new self-contained work, e) Finally, there is a marked absence of information coming from archive material; even when such information does exist, it is more often than not, fragmentary*. The aim of this article is to provide an initial scientific record by a Greek author of the World War II Bulgarian occupation and of its consequences on the city and the area of the prefecture of Drama. Its principle aim is not, ho wever, to give a full catalogue of victims or an assessment of the extent of destruction etc., but rather to provide a brief, collective (and not necessarily exhaustive) picture of the Bulgarian occupation and its consequences on the Greek population.

Data presented in this report are derived from the notifications of laboratory diagnosed human cases of WNV infection sent to the National Public Health Organization (NPHO) by the treating physicians and from the daily communication with diagnostic laboratories: i) the National Reference Centre for Arboviruses, Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, ii) the Department of Microbiology, School of Medicine, University of Athens, iii) the Hellenic Pasteur Institute, iv) the Laboratory of Clinical Virology, School of Medicine, University of Crete. The Department of Epidemiological Surveillance and Intervention of the NPHO undertakes a verification procedure through communication with the treating physicians and the patients, as necessary. In 2019 period, up to 05/09/2019 (11.00p.m.), one hundred and fifty eight (158) laboratory diagnosed cases of WNV infection have been reported to NPHO, ninety seven (97) of which presented with neuro-invasive disease (WNND, encephalitis and/or meningitis and/or acute flaccid paralysis) and sixty one (61) cases with mild symptoms (febrile syndrome) (Table 1). In the present study, it is reported the hydrogeological profile and the distribution of soil and groundwater physical and chemical parameters, in the Prefecture of Drama (Northern Greece). A total of 30 water samples and 750 soil samples were collected, and fifteen physical and chemical parameters for water and sixteen physical and chemical parameters for soils were determined and analyzed for the period 2004-2005. Water temperature, pH, electric conductivity, carbonate, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, bicarbonate, sulphate, chloride, nitrate, iron, manganese, total hardness and sand%, clay%, silt%, organic matter%, electric conductivity, SAR, pH, nitrate, phosphorous, potassium, magnesium, iron, manganese, zing, cooper and boron were the determined parameters for water and soil samples respectively. According to Wilcox, the majority of groundwater samples belongs to C2S1 category and can be used for irrigation with some precaution. The groundwater samples that came from the low part of the plain belong to C3S1 category, so they can be used for irrigation with the appropriate precautions, in soils without drain systems.

These projects were included in the respective regional operational programs co-financed by the European Union (EU) and national funds. The paper discusses the EU‟s regional and cohesion policy which aims at reducing regional inequalities and ensuring social, economic and territorial cohesion. In Greece, cohesion policy implementation for the 2007-2013 period was achieved through the NSRF, 2007-2013, whose training philosophy and the priorities that it set are the focus of the present study. The research area concerns the region of eastern Macedonia and Thrace and, more specifically, the 21 municipalities that it consists of.

OPTIONS New approaches for grassland OPTIONS méditerranéennes méditerranéennes research in a context of climate SERIES A: Mediterranean Seminars and socio-economic changes 2012 – Number 102 CIHEAM New approaches for grassland Edited by: research in a context of climate Z. Acar, A. López-Francos, C. Porqueddu and socio-economic changes Edited by: Z. Acar, A. López-Francos, C. Porqueddu Grassland-based systems are no longer seen exclusively as livestock production enterprises but as multiple use systems with important consequences for the global environment. They are crucial for the protection of ecosystem goods and services, for tourism and for mitigating climate change. Well- managed grasslands provide important benefits such as increased water infiltration and retention or improved nutrient cycling, associated with organic matter accumulation in the soil, as well as increased plant growth and species diversity. Thereby, grassland management is also an adaptation strategy for climate change, as it reduces the risks associated with prolonged drought periods and unreliable rains that characterise Mediterranean regions. There is an urgent need to assess the interaction between climate change and grasslands to identify appropriate options that can help farmers to manage forage resources under increasing drought conditions and market globalisation. The challenge is then to improve grassland productivity, pasture persistence and resilience under these constraints. Scientific advances in grassland management and new strategies in plant improvement
