Brisbane – Norfolk Island.

Day One. Saturday 3rd June

After your early morning pick up from your door, we make our way to Brisbane International Airport. Welcome to the start of your Norfolk Island Holiday. Following is your itinerary giving times and descriptions of all the wonderful tours and excursions you will be undertaking while visiting this beautiful Island. Di will assist you to the Check- in Counter at the Brisbane International Airport by 8.30 am to check in for your flight departing at 11.30am and will take approximately 2 hours to Norfolk Island. During the flight you will be served a light refreshment. You no longer require a passport to travel to Norfolk Island but photo I.D is required to check in.

Touch down & welcome to Norfolk Island! After clearing customs at the airport, you will be met by a representative Pinetree Tours who will assist you with your luggage and transfer you to your accommodation at Heritage Hill Hotel. Free time this afternoon to rest or shop! Maybe pop into town and have a look at the exciting shopping that Norfolk has to offer. The shopping on Norfolk Island is amazing and you will find amazing prices on quality and name brand items imported from around the world. The shopping is so good in fact, that many visitors come just to shop, for instance, Lego is cheaper on Norfolk than in Denmark, and quality German Knifes are often advertised at half mainland prices. Dinner at PARADISE tonight. (D) After dinner, Pinetree Tours will pick us up (7.45pm) and transfer you back to the convict era with the sensational Sound and Light Show. As the use of real life sounds and theatrical lighting break the still starry night, costumed actors will merge with the ruins to bring real convict stories to life, mesmerising you with tales of death, misery and the horror of these decades. Re-enactments of whippings with the Cat-o-Nine tails and the story of Bloody Bridge among the tales to be told. We stay on the bus for the whole tour – no walking. Very clever. (Duration: 1 hour)

We’re in for a real treat today as we join the locals to celebrate Bounty Day. Anniversary (Bounty) Day on the 8th of June 2017 will mark the 161st anniversary of the arrival of the Islanders to Norfolk Island. The Pitcairners were the descendants of the infamous English sailors of mutiny on the Bounty fame and the Tahitian women who, under their leader Fletcher Christian, began a new life on isolated Pitcairn Island. After outgrowing tiny Pitcairn the community, Queen Victoria gave Norfolk Island to the eight island families, 194 islanders arrived on the “Morayshire” in 1856. The celebrations are held in the World Heritage area of Kingston which includes a re-enactment, parade, wreath laying, singing of hymns and a community picnic highlighting traditional food.
