STAFF BIOS MANAGER: RICK MAGNANTE Rick Magnante enters his fourth season as the manager of the Stockton Ports after previously serving as manager of Low-A Beloit in 2014. Prior to the 2014 campaign, Magnante spent eight consecutive seasons managing the A’s short-season affiliates in Vermont (2011-13) and Vancouver (2006-10). This season will be his 14th overall s a manager, having previously managed three seasons in the Detroit Tigers organization. He also served as the manager of the South African national team in the 2006 World Baseball Classic.

In addition, Magnante served as an area scout for the A’s from 1996-2013. He is credited with signing Barry Zito and Bobby Crosby, among other players. He was the recipient of the Southern California Scouts Association scout of the year award and the A’s Dick Bogard Memorial Award in 2001 and 2003, respectively.

Magnante, who began his career in professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians in 1969, has also held managerial positions in the Detroit Tigers minor league system (1987-89) as well as with the Novara Serie A team of the Italian Professional League (1990).

Magnante resides in Encino, Calif. and has two sons, Bobby and Daniel.

PITCHING COACH: BRYAN COREY Bryan Corey enters his first year as Stockton’s pitching coach after spending one season serving in the same capacity with Short-Season Vermont. Prior to that, he served as a Four Corners scout for the (2015-16) and a Major League advance scout for the Cleveland Indians (2013-14.

Originally drafted as a shortstop by the Detroit Tigers in the 12th round of the 1993 draft, Corey was converted to a pitcher after two professional seasons. He spent the next 18 seasons on the mound, including five years in the majors with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres, winning a World Series with the Red Sox in 2007.

He also played two seasons in Japan (2004, 2010), winning the Japan Series with Chiba Lotte during his second stint. Additionally, he pitched in both Korea and Taiwan before retiring after the 2012 season.

A native of Thousand Oaks, Calif., he currently resides in Mesa, Ariz., and has two daughters, Brooke (14) and Blair (9).

HITTING COACH: BRIAN MCARN Brian McArn returns to Stockton for a third stint as the Ports’ hitting coach after spending the last two seasons serving in the same capacity for Double-A Midland. 2018 marks his 21st season as a hitting coach in the A’s system, having previously coached for Stockton (2011-12, 2014-15), Sacramento (2005-10), and the A’s former High-A affiliate in Modesto (1998-2003).

Prior to joining the A’s organization, McArn spent one season as the hitting coach for the Single-A Vermont Expos of the New York-Penn League. McArn began his coaching career at American River Junior College in Sacramento, where he served as an assistant coach.

Selected in the 26th round of the 1991 June draft, McArn spent two seasons in the A’s organization before injuries ended his career in 1992.

He makes his off-season home in Elk Grove, Calif. with his wife, Cancy, and four children: Brian, Bryson, Brevon and Braydon.
