2006-2009: PhD IN PHARMACOLOGY, “Université de Paris XII-Henri Mondor Teaching Hospital-Paris- France” Thesis Title: Neuroendocrine alterations in Huntington’s disease: clinical consequences and therapeutic implications. (with high distinction) Scholarship from the Henri Mondor Teaching Hospital-Paris-France Brief Synopsis of Research: Huntington’s disease (HD) is a neurodegenerative CAG triplet repeat disorder. It is clinically characterized by anxiety, depression, weight loss, chorea and dementia. Neuropathological changes include neuronal dysfunction, protein aggregates and cell death in the cerebral cortex, the striatum and the hypothalamus. The pathophysiological processes leading to the neurodegeneration and to the symptoms of HD remain unidentified and current hypothesis do not explain the intra-and interindividual heterogeneity of the evolution of these symptoms. Thus, disease progression in patients remains difficult or impossible to predict. My current research centres around hormonal disorders and their influence and role on the progression and possibly on the pathophysiology of the disease.
