Steps:

1. Go to the Apple TV home screen. For instructions on how to do that while your signage is playing, see the Sophatar document ‘Using the Apple TV Remote’.

2. Select and open the TestFlight app on the Home screen (normally 2nd item from the left on top row). Login with the username & password that Sophatar provided to you in their app update email. Once logged into TestFlight you will see SophatarKiosk listed; it will already be the new version. Select it. After that you will see a screen similar to below.

3. The number between () is the build number of the software (1005 in the picture). This number will increment for every app update and should be the same number as in the app update email you received from Sophatar (if your Apple TV would have lost its internet connection then it may be a previous version still). The other number is the version number of the software (v1.0 on the picture) and may or may not change with an app update.

4. Select the ‘Open’ or ‘Install’ button to download and install the new version.

5. IMPORTANT: after installation you need to logout from the account that you used in paragraph 2 to install the software. Otherwise occasionally, while you run the SophatarKiosk app to play your signage, a popup message from Apple may appear that asks you to enter your password again. This may only show up after 24 hours or more so you may not notice it at first. So be sure to logout by going to the Apple TV Home screen then select Settings (normally 3rd icon from the left on top row), then Accounts, then ‘iTunes and ’, then ‘Sign Out’.

7. Repeat this on your other AppleTV devices. Check the Sophatar app update email for the usernames and passwords to enter on each of your devices as they may be different per device.

To simplify the update process, your login credentials to the Sophatar app are preserved after an update so you should not need to re-enter it.

Deleting the SophatarKiosk app from your AppleTV

If you ever need to pass your Apple TV to someone else who should not know your Sophatar login credentials, then you need to delete the SophatarKiosk app. Similar to an iPhone, you can delete an app on Apple TV by going to the Home screen, then long pressing the touch surface, and swiping to select the app you want to delete. Then press the ‘Play/Pause’ button and it will bring up an options dialog that includes ‘Delete’. If you then re-install the app using the method described, it will not have your username and password pre-filled out anymore.
