HELLINGPROOF Congratulations everyone with already 5 great Activities and memorable years of Hellingproof! Of course Club this cycling mail contains all the nice stories of the Monday Bas-en-Tjalle training 18:00 at the Bongerd.2 Lustrum activities, but also some new activities that Wednesday spinning training 17:15 in the Bongerd.2 are coming up will be announced. Training at Sports Centre the Bongerd Mountain biking: Thursday 14:00-16:00.1 Lustrum opening party At Tuesday 13th of November, we started our Other Activities 6 Dec: Sinterbaas evening Lustrum activities with an opening party at Annies 9 December: Wintertraining with Domrenner Kroeg. The evening started well with the special 12-13 January: Members weekend reveal of our new loan bike. Almost the entire spinning room was full of Hellingprofs so we are very proud of the turn- Tjalle obviously enjoying his evening as well out, showing that our association has grown a lot over the past years! With our own (Sigrids) songs, everybody had a reason to push it to the limits, while being motivated by Filips encouragements. We had a great two weeks and hope to see you all during our next Lustrum, which is only still 1810 days ahead of us! Sinterbaas As most of you have noticed, Sinterbaas is in the country again. Of course, he won't forget the Hellingprofs. Sinterbaas even made an exception for us (because of our first Lustrum), he won't go Bronno back at the 5th of december, but a bit later. So, Hellingproof will still be able to celebrate Sinterbaas!! Enjoying some drinks with friends and especially Name: travelling around the world. Nienke Boon What is your greatest cycling experience? I think, every week (in summer) the outside trainings contribute to my greatest cycling experiences. The group made me concur my (not developed) ability of climbing some Dutch mountains. I really love the fact that you are cycling in such a large group and never feel alone on a tough part. An example of this is, that whenever I am cycling alone for a minute or so, somebody always just comes by and asks how it’s going and if you’re all right. The people are amazing and this keeps me enthusiastic about going again every week. Age: 22 What is your best Hellingproof moment of 2018? Lustrum Beck Flood Alleviation Scheme: Phase 2 Authors: Joe Reed, Ted Thomas Main driver: Flood risk management Project stage: Detailed design Photo 1: Flooding event, September 2012 Project summary: The Lustrum Beck catchment (Map 1) is located in Stockton-on-Tees and is a tributary of the Tees. It has been identified through an ISIS-TUFLOW model that over 150 properties are at risk of flooding in the catchment within 2 main areas: Oxbridge and Browns Bridge. For these sites, the Lustrum Beck Flood Alleviation Scheme (FAS) has been split into 2 phases. Phase 1 is well underway and consists of constructing more traditional flood defences in the urban area of the catchment. Phase 2 is currently in the development stage and will involve storing water at a range of scales in the upstream catchment area using natural processes to attenuate water. This case study focuses on Phase 2 in the Lustrum Beck catchment and how natural processes are being incorporated into the scheme to reduce downstream risk. Key facts: The model used identified that a total storage area of around 100,000m³ of storage within the local catchment area could reduce the discharge from the 1 in 100 year return period by 11.5%. This would reduce the peak flow of the 1 in 100 year event to less than 1 in 75 year event. The Lustrum Beck project is the first flood risk management scheme to develop a business case which includes the use of Natural Flood Management (NFM) to successfully attract Flood Defence Grant in Aid (FDGiA) funding to reduce flood risk.

Eventfulness is at least in some of its parameters a hermeneutic, subject-dependent and context-sensitive category indicative of interpretation. Subject-dependency and context-sensitivity do not threaten narratology. Narratology should do more than design clinically sterile, aseptic analytical tools whose purpose is to generate objective descriptions that stand alone and have nothing to do with context and interpretation. Such a narratology would indeed not be very attractive. In the non-empirical humanities in general, there is little merit in the dichotomy between objective description and subjective, context- sensitive interpretation. I will give an example from the field of narratology. An event is a special case of a change of state. But the task of recognizing a change of state is, more often than not, heavily dependent on interpretation, either because the explicit properties of the initial and final states are not equivalent and thus require suppositions to be made if they are to be comparable, or because the dif- ference between the states themselves is not clear.
