It costs double for transfers after 7.00 pm. 7 PULAU REDANG Approximately 45 km off Kuala Terengganu, lies Pulau Redang. The island is reachable either by a one and a half hour journey by ferry from Shahbandar Jetty in Kuala Terengganu or by a 40 minute speedboat ride from the Merang Jetty. Accommodations of various budgets are mainly located in the Long Beach area while a five star resort is located at Teluk Dalam area. Sheltered within the Pulau Redang gazetted Marine Park, the waters here are rich in marine life. This paradise-like island is a perfect place for snorkeling, swimming, scuba diving, jungle trekking, boating and canoeing. Those interested in fishing or squid jigging should try their luck in the vicinity waters off Pulau Chepu. It is a small rocky island off the coast of Setiu, accessible by a 20 minute speedboat ride. Visitors from Kuala Terengganu need to travel about half an hour up north to this jetty. Pulau Lang Tengah’s untouched tropical jungle still retains its natural ecosystem. The sea promises soft and hard colourful corals of unrivaled beauty with an abundance of marine life. There are only four resorts here, each with their own private beach. The morning speedboat journey to the island takes approximately 45 minutes and costs RM110.00 per person. 17 18 ISLANDS & BEACHES PANTAI BATU BURUK This recreation beach is the preferred place for weekend holiday retreats in Kuala Terengganu, a favourite among youngsters and families. Feel the cool breeze while strolling on the wide stretch of sandy beach overlooking the South China Sea. A children’s playground, horse riding activities, jogging tracks, toilets, eating stalls and performance stage are available. Locals and tourists alike flock to the beach spending quality time with the family and their loved ones. 19 How to get there Batu Buruk is the closest beach from the city centre. It is reachable by bus (Marang / Dungun), trishaw and taxi or even on foot if you like walking (about 20 minutes from city centre). 20 ISLANDS & BEACHES PANTAI PANDAK, CHENDERING About 6 km south of Kuala Terengganu, Pantai Pandak in Chendering is yet another preferred beach in Kuala Terengganu with a great view. The coved beach along shallow water in between the rocky section provides a suitable atmosphere for family camping trips. This stretch of beach is ideal for bathing especially during low tide but be extra cautions not to go in too deep to avoid undercurrent. Fresh seafood products are available at the food stalls here. How to get there There are public buses that ply the Dungun / Marang route from Kuala Terengganu. It takes 15 minutes to reach Chendering junction and another 15 minutes of walking to the beach.

    Chapter Seasonal Variability of Groundwater Quality in Kapas Island, Terengganu, Malaysia Mohmadisa Hashim, Arijatul Wardah Ahmad, Zahid Mat Said, Nasir Nayan, Hanifah Mahat, Yazid Saleh and Koh Liew See Abstract The chapter aims to evaluate the groundwater quality levels in Kapas Island, Terengganu, Malaysia during the monsoon changes of the Southwest Monsoon (SWM), Monsoon Transition (MT) and Northeast Monsoon (NEM) in 2018. Four locations were used for groundwater sampling namely, the Kapas Coral Beach Resort, Kapas Beach Chalet, Pak Ya Seaview Chalet, and Kapas Island Resort. Three water samplings at each station for every month in the monsoon. Six parameters of the Malaysian Water Quality Index (WQI), i.e., dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS) and ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3-N), were used to evaluate the water quality. The findings showed the groundwater quality parameters are in Class I and II. However, according to WQI Malaysia, the water quality status during the three monsoons is slightly polluted. During the SWM, the WQI value was 76 (Class III), the MT was 77 (Class II), and the NEM was WQI 71 (Class III). Given this status, it requires more intensive water treatment as it is not suitable for direct drinking water supply. The implications of the study show that the quality of groundwater in Kapas Island has to improve by the tour operators. A total of 100 Reef Check surveys were completed in 2011, 52 in Peninsular Malaysia and 48 in East Malaysia, a slight increase on 2010. The surveys are a continuation of a successful National Reef Check Survey Programme that has now run for five years. 2. The surveys were carried out by volunteers trained and certified in the global standard Reef Check method. Kajian teknikal telah dijalankan bersama diantara pihak MRL dan CCCC. Setelah mengambil kira penilaian kejuruteraan nilai yang komprehensif dalam semua aspek teknikal projek, hasil utama kajian ialah perubahan jajaran, ianya juga melibatkan perubahan lokasi stesen. Kedudukan stesen-stesen baru ini telah mengambil kira pelbagai faktor seperti aspek kejuruteraan keretapi, impak sosial, impak alam sekitar dan impak warisan. 3. Disamping itu juga, kedudukan stesen telah mengambil kira takupan penumpang dengan bandar atau pekan terdekat di dalam radius 20km. Perkhidmatan keretapi ECRL merupakan perkhidmatan keretapi antara bandar di mana jarak purata di antara setiap stesen adalah lebih kurang 30km. Secara tidak langsung, ianya bakal merangsang pertumbuhan ekonomi di sekitar stesen ECRL dan mewujudkan lebih banyak peluang pekerjaan baru.

The mean concentrations of ammonia, nitrate, total dissolved N and total particulate N were 43 µg/L N, 195 µg/L N, 485 µg/L N, 431 µg/L N, respectively. In contrast to N, lower mean concentrations of P were recorded with values of 2.30 µg/L P (dissolved inorganic P), 4.84 µg/L P (total dissolved P) and 8.35 µg/L P (total particulate P). In general, higher concentrations of nutrients were recorded in the middle and lower reaches of the river basin due to human activities. Elevated levels of both forms of nutrients were present during the wet season due to terrestrial run-off to the water column.

Previous experiences have recorded that the phenomena will cause a problem to the freshwater aquifer due to its salinity contamination. Conventional approach on saltwater detection also suffers from efficiency in term of cost, time and data coverage. Hence, this study has introduced an electrical resistivity imaging (ERI) for saltwater intrusion mapping based on time lapse condition. Data acquisition and processing of ERI was performed using ABEM SAS 4000 and RES2DINV software.
