Focus-Ifad During FOSTERING CLIMATE RESILIENT UPLAND FARMING SYSTEMS IN THE NORTH-EAST (FOCUS) REPORT ON ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN BY FOCUS-IFAD DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC. AGRONOMY: A. Locally procured seeds through Farmers Interest Groups (FIGs) like Ginger, Colocosia, Potato, Beans, Chilly etc were sown in Current Jhum. B. Meeting to discuss on the Agriculture contingency plan and convergence plan on CSS was held between Agriculture Dept and FOCUS-IFAD on 2nd April 2020 with Addl. Chief Secretary & APC. C. Sowing of Kharif crops was done from March till May in the Hills and till July in the foothills by maintaining social distancing and other preventive measures. Certified and improved seeds from authorized dealer of National seed corporation like Arhar, Black Gram, Groundnut, Soyabean and Sesbania about 66.8 MT has been transported to all FOCUS Villages with special permit from District Administration, expected to cover 4440 hectares covering 31692 households. POPs were also compiled and developed for dissemination to the farmers through the DMUs on the following crops. D. Displaying tools by Local innovators at Sacraba under Phek District. 6 Longsa village under Mokokchung district A FOCUS project village giving vegetables free of cost to quarantine centre. HORTICULTURE: The project has distributed quality planting materials of orchard and plantation crops to the farmers during June –July 2020 through the Department of Horticulture, Nagaland. The planting materials include Khasi Mandarin, Parkai, Arecanut and Plum. Developed Short videos on planting techniques in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Nagaland on certain crops (Khasi mandarin, parkai, arecanut) 7 and digital brochure on plum disseminated to Lead Farmers and FIGs of the project villages as physical training was not possible due to the Covid – 19 lockdown. In 2018 the potential of pukhoti was discussed at various trainings and meetings of farmers of Zunhoboto district. The idea was well conceived by the farmers of Tsutoho and have put into practice. The lead role taken in none other than our FOCUS Settled FIG chairman. It is the same village who has done the land lease agreement and cultivated Mandarin Orange under FOCUS. 9 SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION: Protection of water source and construction of water harvesting structure works had started. Newly constructed Water harvesting tank at Shotomi Village under Upland settled. Construction of water storage and delivery system at Tsukomi village Agunato block under FOCUS- IFAD. 10 Construction of Water reservoir under Support to settle agriculture in Longleng. District. LIVESTOCK: 1. 23 officers and staffs of Agri and allied department of Kiphire has been trained as ToT on Animal Husbandry from 17th March’2020 to 21st March’2020. 2. Renovation of Three (3) Boar Stations at State Pig Breeding Centre’s of Akuluto, Tizit and Phek. 3. Bio-fencing with trench for Mithun enclosure at Khukishe Village. 4. Stock Grid at Khukishe and Tsutoho Village. 5. On going Pig Housing at Tanga Village, Longleng. 6. 148 Pig Breeders selected for support of Pig Breeding Unit. 7. 625 Community Animal Health Workers appointed from 625 FOCUS Villages. 1. ToT on Animal Husbandry, Kiphire District. 11 Field visit to a private pig farm & Demonstration at Kiphire Town by Dr.Tsilise DDDO 2. In constituency wise, Southern Angami-II with 53.55 % has the highest percentage of female electors to total electors followed by Southern Angami-I with 52.95 % under kohima district. Phomching under Mon district with 43.66 % has the lowest percentage of female electors to total electors. There were 5 (Five) women contestants as against 190 male contestants during the 13th state assembly election. So far, no women contestants has managed to win a seat in the state legislative assembly.

Amenla, Joint Director Agriculture, Directorate of Agriculture, Kohima, Nagaland, India Keviu Shuya, Deputy Project Director, Agricultural Technology Management Agency, Phek, Nagaland, India Introduction The Naga farmers have since time immemorial worked closely with nature by understanding the rich resources to innovatively develop farming systems to their advantage. Tested indigenous knowledge of farming is orally passed down through generations and is still in practice along with the modern agriculture farming technologies. One such farming system that has already been accepted and acknowledged by all stakeholders to be one of the best practices and sustainable farming approaches is the cultivation method developed by the Kikruma village of Phek district, Nagaland, India. The Zabo (Zabü) farming method is similar to IFS (Integrated Farming System). The only difference is in the involvement of the entire farming families of the village and the sharing of the rainwater harvesting during the cropping season and management of land and off-farm activities. There is ample scope for this indigenous farming system to be adopted with technology intervention in hill agriculture where farmers face water scarcity and soil erosion. Nagaland Nagaland is one of the smallest states in India. Located in northeastern India, it occupies an area of 16,579 sq km, having a population of 1,978,502. Agriculture is the main occupation and the state has the potential to cultivate approximately 721,924 lakh hectare, that is, 4.35% of the total geographical area. The topography of Nagaland is largely undulating hilly terrain, situated between 25'06 °N and 27'04 °N latitude and 93'20 °E and 95'15 °E longitude.

    GOVERNMENT OF NAGALAND COMPENDIUM OF EVALUATION STUDIES CONDUCTED BY DIRECTORATE OF EVALUATION (1970 - 2000) DIRECTORATE OF EVALUATION GOVERNMENT OF NAGALAND KOHIMA PREFACE Evaluation of programmes and schemes is a useful instrument to determine whether the programmes are having the desired impact and whether the benefits of the programmes are reaching the targeted group of persons. By reflecting the actual field experience, it plays a vital role in improvement of future policy and project formulation. The Nagaland State Evaluation Organisation was established in October 1968 as an Evaluation Unit under the Department of Planning and Co-ordination. It was subsequently upgraded to a, Directorate with seven District Evaluation Offices. Since its inception, the Evaluation Directorate has brought out forty-two evaluation reports. The reports provide an insight into the implementation of various programmes and schemes in the State. The evaluation studies have dealt with an array of subjects ranging from schemes on rural development, social welfare, agriculture, health and family welfare, etc. This compendium is an effort to provide a brief synopsis of these, many of which are not readily available. It is hoped that this compendium will be of use to the State departments in bringing into focus strengths and shortcomings of the programme implementation.
