February Breakdown After finishing the four-game road trip to the east coast, LA will only play two more road games in the month of February (COL, WPG) while the rest of their contests will come at home. One of those road games includes the 2020 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series on Feb. 15 where they will take on the Colorado Avalanche. LA will face Metropolitan opponents in almost half their games this month (WSH, NYI, NJDx2, NYR, PIT).

Stadium Series Vets Tonight the Kings will take on the Colorado Avalanche in the 2020 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series at the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs, CO. It is the Kings’ third regular-season outdoor game. Seven Los Angeles players skated in the 2015 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series: forwards Kopitar, Trevor Lewis, Dustin Brown, Tyler Toffoli and Jeff Carter; defenseman Drew Doughty; and goaltender Jonathan Quick.

Gordie Howe Hat Trick In Wednesday’s game, Kurtis MacDermid recorded his second career multi-point game (1-1=2) and his first ever ‘Gordie Howe Hat Trick’ (goal, assist and a fight). It marks the 67th time a Kings player has recorded a Gordie Howe Hat Trick. Kyle Clifford was the last Kings player to accomplish this on April 2, 2019 in a 3-1 win over Arizona.

Penalty Killin’ It The Kings went 3-for-3 on the penalty kill in Wednesday’s contest against the Flames, going perfect on the penalty kill in seven of their last eight games. Since Jan. 29, the Kings are 14-for-15 on the penalty kill, ranking second-tied in the NHL (93.3%). The Kings are 11- for-35 on the power play since Dec. 31, ranking third in the league (31.4%).

Calling the Shots The Kings have consistently been able to get pucks to the net, ranking third in the NHL in shots per game this season at 33.9. Not only have they excelled in shots per game, they’ve also been able to limit their opponents’ shots, ranking second in the league in shots against per game at 29.2. The Kings have limited their opponents to 30 or less shots in 35 of their 58 contests this season.

Since the NHL adopted 3-on-3 overtime the Kings lead the league in wins and winning percentage.
