5 VARSITY GIRLS TENNIS May 6, 2019 It was a crazy couple of weeks for the ladies. With last minute canceled matches, forfeitures and last minute away match location changes, the girls adjusted and kept smiling through it all! Thanks to the great job of the coaches, the girls were able to still play some of the matches and had a lot of success. Currently the Lady Centurions are 12 wins and 7 losses for the season. We are so proud of this young team and the successful year they are having! They have worked very hard this season and it shows.

Also headlining, the lady’s tennis team gathered to do a service project for In Christ I Trust which is a non-profit organization run by one of our players parents, Todd and Anne Bradshaw. This organization was set up to meet the needs of under-served children and families. Again, the rain was a factor for our scheduled service project on Easter Saturday. The Easter Eggstrava- ganza which is an Easter event for a local community in need was rained out Satur- day, but we were blessed with sunshine on Sunday so although not mandatory, many of the players and their families came to help with set-up, clean-up, an Easter Egg hunt of 1800 eggs, bouncy houses, face painting, plus food and drinks for eve- ryone. Not everything always works as you plan, but have trust in God! The last several weeks have been testament to that. God is our almighty Saviour and many children and families were blessed. Thank you to the Bradshaw Family and all the people who took time out of their Easter Sunday to help make this a suc- cessful event!

Here’s a breakdown of the matches the ladies were able to play:

Tuesday 4/16 vs. Collegiate. Loss 2-3 Thursday 4/18 vs. North Oldham High School. Win 4-1 CAL. Tuesday 4/22 v Bullit East High School. Win 3-2 Monday 4/29 v. Eastern High School. Win 4-1 CAL Thursday 5/2 v Christian Academy of Indiana. Loss 2-3

Currently the Lady Centurions are 12 wins and 7 losses for the season. We are so proud of this young team and the successful year they are having!

The Lady Centurion tennis team would love your support at their last 2 matches of the season. Please join us as we fin- ish of the season strong!

9 FRESHMEN BASEBALL May 6, 2019 CAL Frosh Baseball Wins 10-5

The CAL freshmen baseball team banged out nine hits and scored in every inning but one in winning at home over Oldham County, 10-5, on Monday.

CAL spotted the visitors two runs in the top of the first inning before scoring their first run in the bottom half of the inning. Jack Perdue reached with one out when his pop fly dropped for a single. He stole second base, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and subse- quently scored on another wild pitch to cut Oldham’s lead to 2-1.

Oldham County scored once in the top of the second, before the Centurions scored four times in the bottom of the second to take a lead they never relinquished. Jacob Price start- ed the inning with a line drive single to left field, advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and then to third when Noah McCarty lined a single to right field. Price scored on a passed ball with McCarty advancing to second base. MCarty went to third on a wild pitch but was out at home on Dalton Harrison’s safety squeeze bunt. Jett Peterson singled to centerfield with Harrison stopping at second and the Centurions loaded the bases on Logan McNair’s bunt single. All the runners advanced on a passed ball with Harrison scoring to tie the game at 3-3. Both Peterson and McNair scored when Adam Ballard fought off an 0-2 pitch to ground a single into centerfield, giving CAL a 5-3 lead.

Oldham once again pushed across a run in the top of the third to narrow the score to 5- 4, but CAL answered with two more runs in the bottom half of the frame. Jacob Price walked with one out and scored all the way from first when the pitcher’s errant throw sailed down the right field line on Noah McCarty’s sacrifice bunt. McCarty advanced all the way to third on the play and scored on a passed ball to stretch CAL’s lead to 7- 4.

CAL scored one run in the bottom of the fourth. Logan McNair was hit by a pitch to open the inning and Adam Ballard was hit by another pitch one out later. Both run- ners advanced on steals before McNair scored on Nick Britton’s sacrifice fly to center- field, CAL now leading 8-4.

The Centurions scored two more insurance runs in the bottom half of the sixth in- ning. Logan McNair and Jack Perdue both singled on fly balls to centerfield to lead off the inning. One out later, Nick Britton lined a singled to left field, scoring McNair with Perdue moving to third and Britton to second on the throw to the plate. Will Thompson drew a walk to load the bases and Perdue scored on a passed ball to give CAL an 8-4 lead. Oldham scored once in the top of the seventh inning to finalize the 8-5 score.

CAL had nine hits in the game, all singles. Logan McNair and Jack Perdue each had two singles while Adam Ballard, Nick Britton, Jacob Price, Noah McCarty, and Jett Peterson all had one. Sam Sampson started the game on the mound for CAL and went three innings and Jack Perdue pitched the final four innings in relief. The pitchers combined to limit Oldham County to five hits while striking out ten.

The CAL freshmen next host the Trinity freshmen on Friday at 7:30. Before hosting Eastern the following Monday at 7:30.
