A Memorable ReadBy mossman 11Mr. Garry is a walking encyclopedia of baseball history and a seasoned writer, having honed his craft covering business for several trade publishers over the years. But this book is much more than just facts and figures, as Garry brings his subjects alive in interviews that will hold your interest as you learn about what it takes to play baseball in the major leagues, leading to those great moments and memorable games. And this is not just a book for Met fans, as many of these players were on other teams during their long careers. So Garry includes many stories related to other teams in both leagues during the past 53 years that the Mets have been in existence. In sum, the best baseball book I have ever read, and highly recommended.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Mets History With PersonalityBy Mark HamstraGame of My Life serves as a well-told history of the New York Mets, as seen through the eyes of the players who created the team's most memorable moments. Author Michael Garry, a lifelong Mets fan with an encyclopedic memory, paints a colorful mural depicting the games that some of the team's greatest players have identified as the "game of their life." Their tales capture the aura around the team at various times through the years, and offer a good deal of insight into the personalities of the players as well. Highlights include the story of how persevered as an overlooked African-American in the minor leagues to become a key player in the Mets' 1969 championship, the home by Mike Piazza in the first game played in New York after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, and the June 1, 2012 no-hitter by , the first and only no-no in Mets history.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. This new addition to the Game of My Life series takes a personal look inside the biggest moments of the Mets’ greatest and most beloved players, from journeymen to superstars. Their most unforgettable games paint a picture of Mets history, as the franchise morphed from a dismal (though lovable) expansion team in 1962 to World Series Champions in 1969 and 1986 and then back to basement dwellers before meeting the Yankees in the 2000 , and evolving into the current, highly promising squad.Fan favorite recounts making “.” Infielder Wally Backman relives the many thrills of playing on the ’86 Mets as they marched to a championship.
