The City of Milwaukee Election Commission received their new, permanent absentee ballot drop boxes last week after ex- periencing a shipping delay due to the pandemic, increased de- mand, and wildfires near the manufacturer. The new drop boxes have more advanced security and weather-proof features that will provide long-term benefits. The Election Commission anticipates that voters will continue to enjoy the convenience and safety of voting from home for years to come. The drop boxes are being installed by the De- partment of Public Works. Election Commission staff are accompanying the DPW workers to ensure that all ballots are received from the old boxes and new security seals will be placed on the new boxes, preserving careful chain of custody procedures. Voters can return absentee ballots to the drop boxes until 7:30pm on Election Day. PACK THE POLLS! Souls to the Polls, a ‘Get out the Vote’ project of Pastor’s United; an organization called ‘SOULS,’ (not related to Souls to the Polls) took to the streets recently to promote early voting in a recent event ti- tled “Pack the Polls.” Milwaukee was one of 20 communities across southeast and southcentral Wisconsin encouraging vot- ers to exercise early the most impactful right an individual has in a democracy. There was a car parade, led by the ‘Build- ing Unity Votemobile’ which made stops at several early voting sites. Among the no- table participants were: Election Commis- sioner Stephanie Findley, Tynneta Kackson from SOULS, Rev. Greg Lewis and Bruce Colburn from Souls to the Polls, Sen. Lena Taylor, and Tracey Dent. -Photos by Yvonne Kemp (continuedAcceptable from front page) Proof of Residenceout) private information Documents such as account bal- A gas, electric or telephone service state- ances or transactions on your proof of resi- ment (utility bill) for the period commencing dence document. not earlier than 90 days before Election Day.
