Led by Music Director Jordan Randall Smith, Symphony Number One brings together great composers of the past, virtuoso performers of the present, and the leading compositional voices of the future. The ensemble aims to develop close working relationships with young and emerging composers, to give new works multiple hearings, to produce substantial recordings, and to create unique concert experiences for the public by juxtaposing new music with the classical canon.

Praised by the Baltimore Sun for his "technical aplomb and keen expressive nuance,” saxophonist SEAN MEYERS seeks to deepen the technical and expressive capabilities of the saxophone and become a driving artistic force in the 21st century. Sean Meyers has given world premieres of music for saxophone and chamber orchestra, saxophone and electronics, unaccompanied saxophone, saxophone quartet, and mixed ensembles. Notable projects include the commissioning and world premiere of Andrew Boss’s Saxophone Concerto with Symphony Number One, and the 2013-2014 Synesthesia Project–a multimedia concert series featuring collaborations between Institute College of Art (MICA) interdisciplinary artists and Peabody composers and performers. He has commissioned and premiered more than a dozen works by emerging composers Andrew Boss, Matthew Sullivan, Mark Fromm, James Young, Andrew Posner, Justin Porter, Sean William Calhoun, Benjamin Learish, and Nick Dulworth. He is admired by composers for his dedication and enthusiasm for new music, and "the eagerness, kindness, and pure excellence with which [he] gobble[s] up new works." Sean is completing degrees in Saxophone Performance and Music Education at the of The Johns Hopkins University. He studies saxophone with Gary Louie and with Dr. Harlan D. Parker.

Pianist, ELIZABETH G. HILL, is an accomplished soloist, chamber musician, orchestral pianist, and educator. Her recent concert appearances include performances in the Washington DC area for the Embassy Concert Series, and the Lyceum, and internationally in Freiberg, Wörlitz, and Zwickau, Germany. An avid supporter of new music, Elizabeth premiered the piano cycle, "Mosaics," by Tim Rumsey, and has performed in numerous new music concerts, including the New Voices festival in Washington, D. C. She has given lectures on solo piano and chamber works by numerous composers including Hindemith, Janáček, and Mieczysław Weinberg. Her
