PORINGLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL AND NURSERY Happy - Active - Inspired - Healthy Learners Newsletter 24 Spring Term 2021

Friday 24 March 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

It’s hard to believe that school has only been fully open for the past 3 weeks! We are delighted that the wider reopening of our school has gone so smoothly, and are extremely appreciative of the co-operation, support and positive feedback from parents/carers.

We have been using the past three weeks to make assessments of the children in terms of their learning and progress. As we move into the Summer Term, we will be introducing ‘catch up’ interventions across the school, with the intention of supporting those whose attainment and progress has been temporarily affected by the lockdown.

Please look out for a Parent Mail later today regarding our new lunch menu. This requires action from all parents who wish their child to have school lunches during the Summer Term.

I would like to wish you and your families a very happy and healthy Easter holiday, and we look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday 12th April.

Yours sincerely,

Mr M. Walker

Deputy Headteacher

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT COVID-19

The symptoms of COVID-19 are:

 a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)  a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)  a loss of or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

If your child or anyone in the household does develop symptoms, or if you require any guidance about coughs or high temperatures, you can seek advice from NHS 111 or at: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/check-if-you-have-coronavirus-symptoms/

If your child or anyone in the household does develop symptoms, a test MUST be arranged. Information on testing is available at: http://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-getting-tested

Tests can also be ordered via NHS 119.

If a person has symptoms, they should self-isolate for 10 days. The period of self-isolation starts on the first day of symptoms and continues for 10 full days afterwards. Members of the household should also self-isolate for the same period of time.

If a child has symptoms, a test will need to be arranged. If the test result is negative, the child can return to school and their household can end self-isolation. Please forward a copy of the test result to us.

Upon request, the school will provide home-learning for any child who is self-isolating. Please contact your class teacher directly if you require further information.

In the event that a staff member or pupil returns a confirmed positive test result, the school will notify the local health protection team. The infected person will self-isolate for 10 days. The period of self-isolation starts on the first day of symptoms and continues for 10 full days afterwards. Their household should also self-isolate for the same period of time. The individual can return to school only if they do not have symptoms other than cough or loss of sense of taste/smell.

If a child or staff member tests positive but has no symptoms (asymptomatic), they should self-isolate for 10 days. The period of self-isolation starts on the day of the test result and continues for 10 full days afterwards. Their household should also self-isolate for the same period of time.

If someone tests positive, they must provide details of anyone they have been in close contact with if asked by NHS Test and Trace.

Following advice from the local health protection team, your child may be required to self-isolate for 10 days if they have come into contact with someone who has a confirmed positive test result. The households of their class or group would not need to self-isolate unless symptoms develop.

What happens if my child is ill but without COVID symptoms?

Providing that your child does NOT have any of the COVID-19 symptoms listed on the previous page, they are able to attend school if parents/carers judge that they are well enough to do so.

However, if we are concerned that a child is not well enough to remain in school, we will contact parents/carers to come and collect them.

Reporting an absence due to illness

When using email or voicemail message to contact the school to report a child’s absence, please state the reasons for the child’s absence, making clear whether or not testing is necessary. 3

ZOOM CHOIR We enjoy being part of the Zoom Choir and really look forward to our practice sessions at 9am on a Saturday morning. We love the warm-up activities at the start of each session. Our favourites are ‘The Witch’, ‘Sweetie Mouth’ and ‘My dog is a good dog’ because they are fun and make us laugh. We also do lots of fun tongue twisters. Before Christmas, we made a video to raise money for ‘The Nook’. Currently we are practising a song called ‘South Australia’ which is a Sea Shanty and we have come up with actions to go with it. Mrs Hayes is a funny teacher and never fails to make us laugh. Mrs Edmunds and Miss Thompson help out with Zoom Choir Mrs Edmunds managed to get us some fantastic Zoom Choir 2021 T-shirts with musical notes printed over them. This makes us a special team!
