STURT UPGRADE GAWLER TO NURIOOTPA

The Upgrade, Gawler to Nuriootpa, is funded by the Australian Government through the AusLink Programme, and managed by Government. This upgrade forms part of the $159.2 million Sturt Highway Upgrade which will improve transport efficiency and safety between and the .

The upgrade will: • improve safety for all road users • maintain access and connectivity for the local community and industry • improve freight efficiency through a more effective connection with port and rail facilities at the Port of Adelaide • reduce delays during peak travel times • improve national and inter-regional connectivity.

The upgrade includes: • duplication of the highway between Gawler and Greenock to become two lanes in each direction separated by a central median • improvements to the Murray Street and Belvidere Road junctions • extension of the existing overtaking lane adjacent Moppa Road to meet with the Old . NTERCHANGE ETAIL - ARTIST IMPRESSION Junction Upgrades & Overtaking Lane Extension Construction of the first stage of the upgrade was completed in May 2007, and included: • widening of the Murray Street junction (at Nuriootpa), including lighting, new sheltered right turn lane and extension of the existing left turn lane • realigning of the Belvidere Road junction to improve sight distance, including lighting, new sheltered right turn lane and extension of the existing left turn lane • extension of the existing overtaking lane adjacent to Moppa Road with relocated lighting at the Old Kapunda Road and Moppa Road junctions. Community Engagement Since August 2006 DTEI has been collecting information from landowners, the local community, stakeholders and councils to feed into the planning process for the upgrade. Feedback from all parties has been considered in the planning of the upgrade, where possible, to ensure a balance of local access needs with the efficiency demands of a major highway forming part of the AusLink National Network. Landowners and the local community will continue to be informed as the project progresses.
