THOMPSON JR. INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CENTER Standing outside the building that bears his father’s name, the John R. Thompson Jr. Intercollegiate Athletic Center was of- fi cially opened in a ceremony on the Hilltop on Thursday, Oct. 6. A public dedication ceremony for the Thompson Athletic Center was held in the plaza area outside the new facility and adjacent to McDonough Arena. More than 600 people were in attendance as Thompson cut the ribbon for the facility that bears the name of the coach who guided the Georgetown men’s basketball team to the 1984 NCAA Championship, three Final Fours and 596 wins in 27 years on the sidelines.
