RECAP First-year junior college transfer Dominique McKoy led fi ve players in double fi gures with 20 points and 10 rebounds as Duquesne cruised to a 103-88 win over Division II Clarion at the Palumbo Center. Returning starters, sopho- mores Jeremiah Jones and Derrick Colter, added 19 and 16 points respectively. Ovie Soko and Desmond Ridenour, who, like McKoy were among six players making their Duquesne debut, added 17 and 12 points each. Jones added nine boards and Colter handed out a game-high nine assists. Mike Kromka led Clarion with 22. Duquesne, with just eight scholarship players in uniform, took a double-digit lead it would not relinquish on a Darius Lewis bucket with 11:55 to go in the fi rst half. The Dukes upped the lead to 20 on the second of two Jones free throws with 7:48 left and topped the 50-point mark on a Der- rick Colter 3-pointer just over three minutes later. The Dukes led 55-35 at the half. DU, which pushed the pace from the opening tip, reached the 100-point mark on a Soko free throw with 2:37 left. Duquesne, which averaged just over 24 3-point attempts per game last season, attempted 13 - including fi ve in the fi rst half. The Dukes, who averaged 67.7 points per game last season, outscored the Golden Eagles 72-32 in the paint.

Jim Ferry, who led LIU Brooklyn to back-to-back NCAA Championship appearances in 2011 and 2012, is in his second season as head coach of the Dukes. The Elmont, N.Y. native, who came to the Bluff with over 250 wins as a head coach at the Division I, Division II and Division III levels, is the 16th head coach in the 96-year history of Duquesne basketball. Ferry came to DU after engineering one of the top rebuilding projects in NCAA Division I basketball at LIU. He took over a 5-22 Blackbirds team in 2002-03 and guided it to 52 wins, including a 34-2 record in play, in his fi nal two seasons. In the process, Ferry’s LIU teams consistently ranked among the top scoring squads in the country. In 2011, the Blackbirds were the fourth-highest scoring team in the nation in fi nishing 27-6. The 27 wins were the most by an LIU team since 1937. LIU ranked second nationally in scoring at 81.4 points per game in posting a 25-9 record in 2012.
