7 Overview of Authentication Adapter 1 Overview of Authentication Adapter

Authentication Adapter is a device used to authenticate users based on information from contactless smart card or information entered with a keyboard displayed on the touch panel. Authenticating users with AuthenticationAdapter allows them to work with their print jobs on the touch panel.

Main Feature

Private Charge Print Feature Supported Once authentication with Authentication Adapter is introduced, then authenticated users will be able to use the touch panel to view and work with the print jobs they submit. On the Authentication Adapter touch panel, they can use the following features:  Selectively printing jobs  Changing the number of copies to print  Selectively deleting jobs  Authenticating using User ID and Password  Checking error messages

8 Specification

 Authentication Adapter (This Device) Reads a smart card and authenticate a user. Print jobs submitted by the authenticated user are displayed on the touch panel, where the user can work with the jobs. Important  Do not place any other card reader or conductor such as metal within 10 centimeters in any direction around the card reader portion.

 Client PC Sends print jobs to the printer.

 Printer Stores and outputs print jobs. One Authentication Adapter can be connected per printer. A USB connection is used to connect to Authentication Adapter on a LAN network.

 Maintenance PC  Used to configure a variety of settings with the administration tool by connecting directly to Authentication Adapter with a LAN crossover cable.  Also used to connect to the printer via LAN and use CentreWare Internet Services to configure settings for reading smart cards. Note  If you use a single PC to do both of the above, you need to disconnect and reconnect the PC.

 Administration tool Used to configure a variety of settings for Authentication Adapter such as device settings, network settings, and printer settings. Connect a maintenance PC directly to Authentication Adapter with a LAN crossover cable, and then access the tool via web browser.

Note  Authentication Adapter does not have the power switch. By connecting the power plug of the AC adapter to the outlet, the power of the device is turned on. To turn off the power, disconnect the power plug from the outlet.

1 Connect a PC that meets requirements to Authentication Adapter with a LAN crossover cable.

9 Turn on Authentication Adapter.

10 When the message "Enter printer Administrator ID and password" is splayed on the touch panel, enter the printer machine administrator's ID and password to authenticate yourself so you can log in to the system. When the message "Hold Smart Card over the card reader" is displayed on the touch panel, the system is ready to read smart cards.

11 Make sure that jobs submitted to the printer are displayed on authentication Adapter. Reference  "Checking that Print Jobs Are Accepted" (P.18)

PC Environmental Requirements

The operation environment for booting the administration tool is as follows:

Internet Options of a PC are required to be configured as follows. Check the settings before accessing the administration tool.  Disabling a proxy server  Enabling the active scripting  Disabling the page cache Important  If an anti-virus software or personal fire wall software is installed, the operation of the administration tool may be prevented. In this case, contact the manufacturer of the software.  If you click [Back] of a web browser, the screen may not be displayed properly.

14 Turning Power On

Turning Power On

Important  Make sure you turn the power on with the slide switch set to OFF. For details of the slide switch, refer to "Side of Unit" (P.11).

Connect the power plug of an AC adapter to the outlet. Wait until the green LED on Authentication Adapter changes from the blinking state to the lit state. (It takes around 4 minutes.)

Logging in to Administration Tool

1 Change the IP address of the PC temporarily to connect the PC and Authentication Adapter via local network.

If you have not changed the IP address of Authentication Adapter for the initial value The initial value (factory default) for an IP address of Authentication Adapter is “192.168.0.1”. If you have not changed the IP address from the initial value, set the following value for the PC.

If you have changed the IP address of Authentication Adapter for the initial value If you have changed the IP address of the PC from the initial value, set an IP address for the PC to enables to connect a current IP address of Authentication Adapter via local network. Note  If you forget the configured value after you changed an IP address of Authentication Adapter, refer to "Checking IP Address" (P.26).

2 Start your web browser and enter “http://{IP address}/login.cgi” in the address bar, and then press the key. If you have not changed an IP address of Authentication Adapter from the initial value, input “http://192.168.0.1/login.cgi”. The login screen is displayed.

3 Select the language to display, and then click [Login].

Note  If you change the display language and then log in to the administration tool, after you log out from the tool, Authentication Adapter is restarted. If you only need to change the display language, i.e. do not need to log in to the administration tool, restart Authentication Adapter manually.

4 When the security screen of Windows is displayed, enter the administrator user name and password, and then click [OK]. If you access the administration tool for the first time, input the following value.

Important  A password can be changed in [Administrator Password] in the [Device Settings] screen in [Manage Device]. For the security protection, be sure to change the password.  If you forget the password for the administration tool, contact our Customer Support Center. When the login is succeeded, the setting screen of the administration tool is displayed.

Configuring Required Settings

This section describes how to set the required settings for using Authentication Adapter with the administration tool. Reference  For details of the screen of the administration tool or the setting items, refer to "Configuring Settings with Administration Tool" (P.23).

1 Log in to the administration tool. Reference  "Logging in to Administration Tool" (P.15)

2 In [Manage Device] > the [Network Settings] screen, set an IP address. Important  Authentication Adapter cannot be used in a DHCP environment. Make sure you set a fixed IP address.

16 Configuring Printer Settings

3 In the [Private Charge Print Settings] screen in [Print Service Settings], set the IP address or host name of the printer to connect to.. Note  When specifying the host name, also set the DNS server information as necessary.

4 Log out from the administration tool. When you log out, Authentication Adapter is rebooted. Confirm the green LED of Authentication Adapter is changed to be lit from blinking. Reference  "Logging Out from Administration Tool" (P.27)

Configuring Printer Settings

This section describes settings you need to configure on the printer you want to connect to Authentication Adapter. For information on how to operate the printer, refer to the manual supplied with the printer.

Items Set from the Control Panel You need to set the following items:  Settings required for using private charge printing In [Admin Menu] > [System Settings] > [Authentication], set one of the following items. - Set [Charge Print] > [Receive Control] to [PrivateChargePrint]. - Set [Login Type] to [Remote Accounts], set [Charge Print] > [Receive Control] to [ReferPrintAuditron], and set [Charge Print] > [Process Job Login] > [Job Login Success] to [PrivateChargePrint]. - [Charge Print] > [Process Job Login] > [Non-PJL Job(s)] > [Use When Available] to [PrivateChargePrint].  Control Panel Usage Limitation Set as follows in [Admin Menu] > [System Settings] > [Panel Settings]. - Set [Panel Lock] to [On]. - In [Enter Passcode], set the password for the machine administrator.  Current Time In [Admin Menu] > [System Settings] > [Machine Clock], set the current date and time.

Items Set via CentreWare Internet Services CentreWare Internet Services allows you to access the printer and set required items.

1 Start your web browser.

2 In the web browser's address bar, enter the IP address of the printer the system is connecting to. CentreWare Internet Services starts.

3 Click the [Properties] tab. If authentication is required, enter the machine administrator.ID and password, and then click [OK].

4 In the [Security] menu, set the following items:

1) Set [Plug-in Settings] > [Embedded Plug-ins] to Enable.

2) Create a certificate in [Certificate Settings].

3) In [SSL / TLS Settings], set [HTTP - SSL / TLS Communication] to enable, and change the port number as necessary.

4) In [Authentication Configuration], set [Login Type] to one of the following options: [No Login Required], [Login to Local Accounts], and [Login to Remote Accounts].

5 In [Power Saver Settings] from the [General Setup] menu, set both [Time to Low Power Mode] and [Time to Sleep Mode]. We recommend you set both of these settings to three minutes or more.

Configure settings for smart cards to use

Use CentreWare Internet Services to configure settings for smart cards to be used. For details, refer to "Configure Settings for Smart Cards to Use" (P.32).

Checking that Print Jobs Are Accepted

Send a print job from the client PC to the printer using Private Charge Print. Authenticate your smart card with Authentication Adapter, and then check that the sent print job is displayed in the job list. Reference  "3 Basic Operation of Authentication Adapter" (P.19)

Turning Power Off

Remove the power plug of an AC adapter from an outlet. The power is turned off, and then all the LEDs are lit off.

This section describes the basic operation of Authentication Adapter.

Basic Operation

Use the steps below.

Logging in (Authenticating) The following login screen is displayed on the touch panel for the standard boot.

Log in with either of the following methods:

Authentication Login Operation Method Smart Card Hold a smart card over the card reader. Authentication Log In with Keyboard Input a user ID and password by the software keyboard displayed by pressing [Log In with Keyboard].

Note  Displayed language can be set in the login screen of the administration tool or the [Device Settings] screen in [Manage Device].  [Log In with Keyboard] is not displayed when the authentication method is set to [No Authentication].

Outputting Prints If the login succeeded, the print jobs that the logged-in user executed are displayed on the touch panel.

 Pressing the icon displays the job details screen. The number of copies can be changed.  To start printing, select a job you want to print from the list, and then press [Print]. Press [Select All] to select all jobs.  You cannot use the touch panel on Authentication Adapter to check the print status or cancel printing. You can check the print status or cancel printing on the printer unit. Reference  For details, refer to "Print Job List Screen" (P.21).

Logging Out (Clearing Authentication) You are logged out automatically if 60 seconds lapsed without operations after you have logged in. You can also set the system so that removing the smartcard automatically logs out the user. To log out manually, press [Logout].

Note  In addition, you are automatically logged out when the printer enters the Low Power Mode or Sleep Mode.

List of Print Jobs If you press the icon, the detail of a job is displayed.

Item Description Logout Press this button to log out. Reference  "Logging Out (Clearing Authentication)" (P.20) Print All Starts printing jobs. Print When no job is selected, [Print All] is displayed; [Print All] switches to [Print] once print jobs are selected. Select All Selects all jobs displayed in the list. Delete Deletes the selected print job in the list. Refresh Refreshes the list of the print jobs to the latest information. List of Print Jobs According to the setting of the user selection, the list of print jobs which the user sent is displayed. When you press this icon, the job properties screen appears. The number of copies to print can be changed.

Pressing the icon in the print job list displays the job properties screen. On this screen, you can check the job status or attributes, or change the number of copies..

Increases/decreases the number of copies by one.

The number of copies can be entered. Maximum value is 999.

22 Configuring Settings with Administration Tool 4 Administration Tool and Smart Card Settings

This section describes how to access the administration tool via web browser by connecting the maintenance PC to Authentication Adapter. You can configure network information, print output information and others. Also, CentreWare Internet Services allows you to configure settings for smart cards to be used to authenticate the printer.

Configuring Settings with Administration Tool

In the setting screen of the administration tool, the following items can be set. If you changed the setting, click [Apply].

Logout

Menu Switches the screen.

Side Menu Switches the screen.

[Apply] Saves the changed setting.

 [Manage Device] menu  Device Settings Configure settings related to the device of Authentication Adapter, such as screen display and administrator password.  Network Settings Set the IP address and others.  Device Information Displays software and system versions.  Error History Displays dates and times when errors occurred and the error codes.

23 Administration Tool and Smart Card Settings

 [Print Service Settings] menu  Private Charge Print Settings Set the IP address or host name of the printer to connect to.  DNS Server Settings If you choose to specify the printer using the host name, set information about the DNS server.

 [Batch Settings] menu  Cloning Uploads/downloads setting information.  Initialization Initializes Authentication Adapter settings. Reference  "[Manage Device] Menu Setting Items" (P.28)  "[Print Service Settings] Menu Setting Items" (P.30)  "[Batch Settings] Menu Setting Items" (P.31) Note  If you change network settings, Authentication Adapter will be restarted.

Uploading/Downloading Setting Information

The setting information configured with the administration tool can be downloaded from Authentication Adapter and can be saved to a file on a PC. As required, the saved file can be uploaded to Authentication Adapter.

1 Connect a maintenance PC to Authentication Adapter, and then log in to the administration tool. Reference  "Logging in to Administration Tool" (P.15)

2 Click [Batch Settings] > [Cloning].

3 Click [Export File].

4 After the confirmation message is displayed, click [Yes].

5 Specify the place to save the file, and then click [Save]. The downloaded file is saved on the specified place.

Uploading the Setting Information File

1 Connect a maintenance PC to Authentication Adapter, and then log in to the administration tool. Reference  "Logging in to Administration Tool" (P.15)

2 Click [Batch Settings] > [Cloning].

3 Click [Browse] to select a file to upload. The filename extension which can be specified is "bin".

4 Click [Upload Settings File].

5 If the confirmation message is displayed, click [Yes]. The setting information of the file is uploaded to Authentication Adapter, and then the current settings are overwritten.

Checking IP Address

After you changed the IP address of Authentication Adapter from the default value, if you forgot the value, you cannot access the administration tool. In this case, you can check the IP address by the following procedure.

1 Disconnect the power plug of the AC adapter from the outlet.

2 Connect Authentication Adapter and a PC with a LAN crossover cable.

3 Turn a slide switch of Authentication Adapter to ON (move toward a LAN connector), and then plug the power of an AC adapter to the outlets.

Authentication Adapter reboots. If the green LED continues to blink for tree seconds and be lit off for a half second, you can access the administration tool with the default IP address (192.168.0.1).

4 Input "http://192.168.0.1/login.cgi" in an address bar of a web browser, and then press the key. The login screen is displayed.

5 Log in to the administration tool.

6 Click [Manage Device] > [Network Settings]. Check the displayed IP address of Authentication Adapter.

7 Log out the administration tool, and then turn off the power of Authentication Adapter.

8 Turn the slide switch to OFF (move toward the AC adapter), and then turn on the power. If booting is completed and the green LED is lit, you can access the administration tool with the IP address checked on the step 6. Important  Before you can operate the slide switch of Authentication Adapter, you need to turn off Authentication Adapter. Logging Out from Administration Tool

If you finished to configure settings, log out the administration tool. Note  After the specified time elapsed since no operation is executed, a user automatically logged out. The time for the automatic logout can be set in [Administration Tool Auto Logout Timer] in the [Device Settings] screen in [Manage Device]. (The default value is five minutes.)

1 Click [Logout] on the top of the screen. After a user logged out the administration tool, the login screen is displayed.

Configure Settings for Smart Cards to Use

The printer's CentreWare Internet Services is used to set the types of smart cardss to use and the way how the smart cards are read. The settings can also be encrypted. Important  When the operation mode of your IC card reader is set to "OK5127CK KBW", setting with CentreWare Internet Services is not needed. Contact our Customer Support Center. Reference  For more information on how to configure smart card settings, refer to the documentation provided with the IC card reader.

1 Start your web browser.

2 In the web browser's address bar, enter the IP address of the printer the system is connecting to. CentreWare Internet Services starts.

3 Click the [Properties] tab. If authentication is required, enter the machine administrator ID and password, and then click [OK].

Problem Solving

This section describes troubles that may occur with the device and their solutions.

Authentication Adapter does not boot

When the touch panel is lit off Check that the AC adapter is connected to the outlet properly. If the green LED is blinking, the device is booting. It takes about 4 minutes until it starts up completely.

When the green LED is blinking slowly If the green LED is lit off for 0.5 seconds after the LED blinks for 3 seconds continuously, the device is booting with the IP address reset to the default setting temporarily. In this case, with the slide switch off, reboot the device.

The touch panel does not display anything even though the power is on [LCD Brightness] of the screen may be set to the lowest level(1). Boot the administration tool, and then enlarge [LCD Brightness] in the [Device Settings] screen in [Manage Device].

A smart card cannot be read, or the authentication fails Make sure to keep conductor such as metal or other card readers 10 centimeters or more away (recommended) from the card reader. Yet the smart card cannot be read, check other smart card can be authenticated. If authentication still fails, it is likely the settings for the smart card are incorrect. The setting screen of the administration tool is not displayed Check the IC address of the PC and the IP address of the PC is on the same local network (the default value is 192.168.0.1). And also, check the proxy server is set to be disabled in the Internet options of the PC. If the error is not resolved even after following the above procedure, operate with the following procedures again.  If the Link method of the network adapter of the PC is set to auto negotiation, fix it to 100 Mbps or 10 Mbps.  Connect the PC to Authentication Adapter via a network HUB.

[Log In with Keyboard] is not displayed on the login screen

 Check whether "No Authentication" is not selected as the printer's authentication mode.  Use CentreWare Internet Services to check that the status of Authentication Adapter Plugin is [Activated].

"Printer communication error. Check printer settings and status." is displayed on the touch panel

 Check that the printer power is turned on.  Use the administration tool to check that the IP addresses of both Authentication Adapter and the printer to connect to are set correctly.  Check the IP address of the printer unit.  Check that the printer's SSL/TLS setting is enabled.  Check the network status.  Use CentreWare Internet Services to check that the status of Authentication Adapter Plugin is [Activated].

"Maintenance Mode" is displayed on the touch panel Turn off Authentication Adapter, flip the slide switch located on the side of the unit to the AC Adapter position, and then turn it on again.

52 Problem Solving

"Enter printer Administrator ID and password." is displayed on the touch panel Enter the printer machine administrator ID and password. If you are sure that the entered ID and password are correct and the message persists, check that the printer clock is correctly set.

The language of the touch panel display is different from that set in the administration tool Unplug the power cable from Authentication Adapter, plug it again, and then turn on Authentication Adapter.

Print jobs you have stored are not displayed Press [Update] on the touch panel, or log out from Authentication Adapter and login again.
