Teams from 9’s to 16’s were asked to provide helpers for 3 hour periods over the weekend. All scheduled volunteers were available for their allocated time slots and a huge thank you needs to go out to those parents, players, and family members who made themselves available to assist. The assistance of these volunteers made sure that the weekends workload was spread across the club and not just to a few people and shows that the club is in a strong support position moving forward. Additionally I would like to thank Kevin Josephsen for organising Traditional Meats to supply the A big thankyou sausages at a very good rate, and also Renae Van Vlijmen, from Auskick, at Bakers Delight Hillarys for their help and support with the bread rolls. to our sponsors The weekend also took some effort from a product collection side of things, and I would also like to thank Neil Hall and Steve Philippe for being available early in the morning to collect the buns on Saturday and Sunday and for their time and assistance over the two days. Last but not least, we need to thank those families who donated cool drinks for this event. As a result of the donated drinks we raised $630-00, which helped us get the profit up to $3,300-00.

Under 12's White Little League game 9 April 2009 On the 9th of April the under 12's White team played at half time of the Subiaco Lions vs South Fremantle game. What a fantastic opportunity for the team to experience a whole new level of footy in front of a huge crowd! Knights News Issue: 1/2009 Date: 1 July 2009 Don’t be a one foot wonder! Everyone who has ever held a football knows that they have a ‘preferred foot’. In modern football - even at junior level - not having a ‘left side’ is a distinct disadvantage. It is also a medical fact that the preferred leg of a football player develops differently to the non- preferred leg. For instance: • It produces significantly higher ball speed in maximum kicking and three-step punt kicking • It has considerably greater knee muscle power and strength • It usually has larger muscle bulk A big thankyou • It has considerably higher accuracy in kicking the ball to our sponsors The problem created by this imbalance between the two legs is that it can increase the potential for injury. What tends to happen is that the preferred foot plays a more important role in forward movement (acceleration), while the non-preferred foot ensures strong impact with the ground to provide stability. What does this mean? One leg gets more pressure when taking off and the other when landing. To reduce the likelihood of injury, here a few recommendations: • You must develop the muscle systems of the non-preferred leg regularly – kick the ball at least 30% of the time with this leg • Training sessions should entail drills that activate both sides of the body and involve turning in both direction. • Include single leg strengthening movements in the training sessions (one-leg squats, lunges, step ups etc) • Ensure any previous injuries that are not 100% healed are supported with taping – especially ankles • Make sure football boots are not too flexible when twisted (they have a strong spine) • Don’t wear down your sprigs by wearing the boots on hard surfaces • Use extra cushioning to the shoe of the preferred foot and a supportive insole/orthotic to the non preferred Happy football. The boys played well. This was our biggest win of the season so far. The team now needs to focus on kicking straighter at goals. Overall a pleasing result and some very strong individual efforts. Best Players 1. Elijah Nepe-McClutchie 2. Blake Timms 3. Aiden Schoers

U 10's Black Coach – Neil Hall WGJFC vs Balga Without question this Balga team sets the benchmark for the rest of the competition. Their willingness to attack the ball at all cost was extraordinary. Our final quarter started well as we scored quickly and closed the gap to 11, but Balga were good enough to respond. Despite a home ground advantage we found ourselves too often in A big thankyou defence and then making defensive errors. This aspect of our game needs far more work and will form the basis of our training over the next few weeks. A game played in good spirits there were warm congratulations from both to our sponsors sides. The young lady on the Balga team was an inspiration; she was skilful, courageous and showed leadership. It would be great to see more girls playing this wonderful game. Best Players 1. Jacob Barrett 2. Callum Corbett 3. Cameron Hill

U 10's White Coach – Ross Bennett BYE

The boys followed the coaches instructions holding their position and were not sucked into playing the blacks game. Best Players 1. Ricky Lirock 2. Chris Moses 3. Ryan Thomas 4. Jake Green 5. Jordan Brooks 6. Hayden Allen

U 12's Black Coach – Glen Hinkley WGJFC Black vs WGJFC White A great game by two very evenly matched sides. Lots of pressure and willing football. Great spirit between both sides. U 13's Coach – Bill Morris WGJFC vs Kingsley Wildcats The boys played really well against the top side. A hard fought game with strong tackling and very good marking. Well done boys. Best Players 1. Jack Morris 2. Corey Lane 3. James Gunston 4. Mark Polinelli 5. Brandon Chau 6. Ryan Frawley

U 14's Coach – Craig Le Maistre WGJFC Maroons vs Scarborough Sea Eagles Some fundamental errors were made, not picking up layers, not tackling properly, going onto the wrong side of the player, more hard work is required. Mitchell Reed 4. Brody Martin 5. Brayden Wood 6. Jack Butler-Smith

U 15's Coach – David Speed WGJFC 17 6 102 vs Sorrento Duncraig 10 12 72 The team had a strong focus and put in a four quarter effort today. It was neck and neck up until three quarter time with 4 points our way, then the team went on to blitz the last quarter and win by 6 goals. Jason’s forward work and last quarter in the centre were top class as was Julz, Princess and AJ’s relentless work around the ground. Welcome to James McKintosh who provided the team with a target at Centre Half Forward all day long. Ayden for a great job at Full Forward and as a loose man in defence was great and lets hope we see him regularly. Thanks to Lucas for playing with an injury and giving our team the flexibility we needed. Ashley marked and kicked well at Full Back and Speedy got involved on the Wing and Half Forward Flank. Liam’s effort at Centre Half Back was tops. Numerous others had four quarter efforts as well. Very pleasing in the way the team ran the game out. Best Players 1. Jason 2. Julien 3. PJ 4. AJ 5. James 6. Ayden

U 16's Black Coach – Scott McManus WGJFC vs Scarborough Sea Eagles We showed today, again, we can match it with any team in the league. Year 4/9’s Coach - Peter James WGJFC vs Carine Jaguars A hard fought game. The boys played well with some excellent individual efforts. We were two players down from the fifteen required and had no reserves. A mere 4 point loss was a good result. Best Players 1. Jake Applebee 2. Aiden Partridge 3. Blake Timms U 10's White Coach – Ross Bennett WGJFC vs Kingsley Lions Good game played in a fiery spirit. Good skills shown by both sides in poor conditions Best Players 1. Christian Sicarich 2. Jarrad Schmidt 3. Chris Tilley 4. Kade Farrell 5. Jake Adam 6. Darrell Podd U 10's Black Coach – Neil Hall WGJFC vs Karrinyup Saints Despite the threat of severe weather, conditions this morning were surprisingly good for football. We came out swinging. Kicking with the wind, our magnificent running midfield players took full advantage of this large ground and all the open space to post a formidable score whilst denying the opposition any. This first quarter performance set the pattern for the entire game. What really pleases me about this team is just how well they now understand each other. Even with the constant player position rotations, we are showing the early signs of instinctive play. If we continue to develop this, then we will have the makings of a champion team. We also welcomed Judd Clinch for his first game with the team today. Having now fully recovered from a fractured arm, Judd put in outstanding performance, in particular his chasing and tackling was quite brilliant. Best Players 1. Judd Clinch 2. Bayley Barber 3. Sebastian Davies U 12's White Coach – Doug Hamilton WGJFC White vs Sorrento Duncraig White Knights put their head over the ball all day. It was good to hear a few more of the lads starting to use their voice. A big screamer from Hammo and great snapped goal from big Luke were highlights as were goals from 50th gamers Kyle and Haydn. Best Players 1. Jake Walsh 2. Jacob Barry 3. Jordan Brooks 4. Ryan Moore 5. James Hamilton 6. Lachlan Green

U 12's Black Coach – Glen Hinkley WGJFC Black vs Sorrento Duncraig Sharks Outstanding effort in trying conditions against a very physical side. We absorbed all the pressure the Sharks threw at us and then stepped it up. They couldn’t come with us and that is the sign of a very good team. We have great spirit in our team and that’s important in tight tough games. Congratulations to Zac and Liam on their 50th games. Want to Best Players 1. Zac Newman 2. Jack Bartrup 3. We hit the ball hard getting front spot and shepherding and talking in here? packs was superb. A special effort was asked from our fringe players and boy did they step up to the mark. U 15's Coach – David Speed WGJFC 20 11 131 vs West Coast 6 1 37 The team played well for the first half then the opposition came back in the third quarter. It was very pleasing to see the boys finish off the last quarter full of running to out score the opposition 8 goals to nil. Damian played his usually reliable consistent game as did Julz. Princess hit a purple patch of form. Luke’s goal kicking accuracy in strong wind conditions was first class. Wade was as usual, hard at it all game. AJ played another high standard game as usual Best Players 1. AJ 2. PJ 3. Wade 4. Julz 5. Luke 6. Damian U 16's Coach – Scott McManus WGJFC vs Dalkeith This week our focus was on one percenters and we chased and tackled ourselves to a fantastic win. Our forward line pressure was especially wonderful and we came back from 4 goals down at ¾ time. Given our recent last quarter efforts, it was good to turn it around. Well done Knights. Noël and Kris would like to thank the Warwick Greenwood Knights Junior Football Club for your patronage at the canteen. All foods served at the canteen are made fresh daily on the premises. Proceeds from the canteen go towards assisting a charity which we head up called “Bali Hearts and Hugs Association Inc.” Helping children with HIV, Education and Health and Hygiene.
