I extend my best wishes for a happy and healthy new year and offer this Old Irish Blessing:

The light of the Christmas star to you, the warmth of home and hearth to you, the cheer and good will of friends to you, the joy of a thousand angels to you, the love of the Son and God’s peace to you.

2020 has certainly been a challenging year. Yet, despite all obstacles, the Church remains a beacon of hope-a light to the world.

Having not lived through the horrors of WWI, WWII, or any other major conflicts, as some of you did - and having not suffered in any of the catastrophes that decimated whole populations, destroyed whole cities, or caused the extinction of whole species, I can honestly say that 2020 has been, in some ways, the worst year of my life! For me, not being able to publicly celebrate Holy Week Rites, with the spectacular and grace-filled ways we truly make the Sacred Triduum come alive and continue its joy for the 50 days of Eastertime, was one of the year’s lowest points. And it seemed that wherever we looked, wherever we went, whatever we did, was tainted with sadness and sorrow.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people of the parish who helped to make our Advent and Christmas celebrations so beautiful and life giving even in this pandemic. Always fearful of inadvertently leaving anyone out, I extend general thanks; not by name but by many categories.

Thank you to Father Bob, our deacons and parish staff for their dedication and hard work.

Thank you to all church ministers: Greeters, Ushers, Readers, Music Ministers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Sacristans, and Sanitizers.

Thank you to all who helped decorate the church so beautifully. And also to those who helped undecorate the Church at the end of the Christmas season.

This year we were able to have our Masses available on our website and Face Book page for those who are unable to attend Mass in person in these trying times. We will be having our Sunday Mass available on these forums at 8:00 am every Sunday. Many thanks to those who made this possible. In the future, we will be appealing for more people to join this ministry.

Thanks to those who worked to make this year’s Giving Tree Project a success. Their hard work and the generosity of those who donated has brought happiness and joy to the many who were helped by this important ministry.

Thanks are also appropriate to all who support the Parish financially. Your generosity during this time of pandemic has been overwhelming. Your continued weekly offerings, one-time gifts, and generous responses to fundraising activities are ensuring the health of the parish now and into the future. I am mindful that your sustained support comes during a year in which your own personal finances may have been strained, and that makes me all the more appreciative of your commitment to God and His Church.

Thank you for all the beautiful and thoughtful cards and gifts to me and most especially for your prayers. Be assured of my prayers for all the members of this wonderful parish. May Our Lord extend His blessings and graces to all of us in the New Year.

To each of you, a big Thank You!

In Christ,
