Time Of Our Lives Sunday 3 September, 2pm bbc.co.uk/radioulster

BBC Radio Ulster’s Time Of Our Lives travels to Omagh for a programme to be broadcast on Sunday 3 September from 2pm, ahead of this year’s BBC Proms in the Park which comes from Castle Coole, outside Enniskillen, on September 9.

Among those chatting with presenter Colum Arbuckle will be brass player, Pat Chesters, who performed with the Plattermen when the band was fronted by Brian Coll, followed by Rob Strong and Simon Scott in the 1970s. Pat also played with Brendan Bowyer in the Royal Show band in Vegas and with Frank Chisholm and many others.

Colum also meets up with Plattermen brass player Leo Doran who took over his father's barber shop in Market Street and had a miraculous escape on the 15th August 1998 as his shop was directly opposite the site of the Omagh bomb. He had closed that day for his daughter’s wedding.

Other guests include brass and keyboard player Ray Moore, and sisters Ivy Turner and Vena Jameson, who over the past 25 years have raised over £750,000 for cancer research. The pair talk about life growing up in the Omagh area in the late 50s and 60s, while Elaine Watterson reflects on running a local hotel in the 1960s when she and husband Dai brought big names to the town including Tom Jones, Jim Reeves, Engelbert Humperdinck and Acker Bilk. Jude Collins completes this week’s guest line-up. The lecturer and author, whose father was a cattle dealer, has written several books, with some of the characters based on his memories of Omagh.

Home Ground  NEW Returns on Monday 4 September BBC One Northern Ireland, 7.30pm

As the harvest season begins, Home Ground returns to BBC One Northern Ireland with a new four- part series on Monday 4 September at 7.30pm.

Produced by Below the Radar for BBC Northern Ireland, the series sees the return of presenters Jo Scott, Gavin Andrews and reporter Ruth Sanderson out and about right across Northern Ireland, celebrating the richness of rural life.

The series is full of interesting stories and people who are passionate about the countryside.

Gavin joins the RSPB at a top secret location to help ring new born Red Kite chicks. The birds of prey were previously persecuted to extinction here but Gavin finds out about the success of their reintroduction.

Jo Scott relies on horse power as she helps clear a forest with the help of Imogen the Suffolk Punch – a breed of horse that for generations helped farmers plough their land but is now under threat of extinction.

While Ruth Sanderson is in the Mourne Mountains helping to restore the blanket peatland that has been worn away due to years of footfall.

In County Fermanagh Gavin takes part in a regatta of Cots, the traditional wooden boats that were used for racing on Lough Erne in the 1800s. Within Cuilcagh Mountain Park, Jo Scott joins nature enthusiasts taking part in the annual Bioblitz - aimed at identifying local flora, fauna and wildlife. And in Enniskillen Jo joins a young farmers’ group as they learn about the traditional technique of scything and the preservation of our grassland meadows.

Also in this series, reporter Daráine Mulvihill looks at the potential impact of Brexit on cross-border agricultural trade including the dairy industry along the border and the sheep farming and sheep processing industry, north and south.
