These are considered the minimum requirement to meet program requirements. Sat Nov 12, 2016 9am - 12pm Introduction to CADS for new volunteers, and AOT1 101 Course Conductors: Malcolm McKinley (CSIA I, CADS III Course Conductor) Al McLarty (CSIA II, CADS III Course Conductor) Where: Calabogie Peaks Resort, 30 Barrett Chute Rd, Calabogie, ON K0H 1H0, Canada Description: The basics for new volunteers including introduction to equipment, administration, approaches to teaching, and the CADS assessment methodology. New volunteers are also encouraged to attend the CADS certification Level I Autism Spectrum Disorder/Cognitively Impaired module being offered in the afternoon. See Here Sat Dec 3, 2016 (Cancelled due to weather) 9am - 3pm Volunteer pre-season training - mandatory for new and second year volunteers Course Conductors: Malcolm McKinley (CSIA I, CADS III Course Conductor) Al McLarty (CSIA II, CADS III Course Conductor) Where: Calabogie Peaks Resort, 30 Barrett Chute Rd, Calabogie, ON K0H 1H0, Canada Description: Basic pre-season training. All welcome, but first and second year volunteers must attend. Ski warm-up, assessment and ski improvement plus basic instruction and guest management. 1 AOT = Ask, Observe, Test – CADS assessment methodology. This will be a recurring element to all CADS Mount Pakenham and Calabogie Peaks training. For more, refer to the CADS Ski Instructor Manual. Version 7 2 December 12, 2016 CADS Calabogie Peaks and Mount Pakenham Training Schedule - 2017 Sat Dec 17, 2016 9am - 3pm New volunteer foundation training Course Conductors: Malcolm McKinley (CSIA I, CADS III Course Conductor) Al McLarty (CSIA II, CADS III) Where: Calabogie Peaks Resort, 30 Barrett Chute Rd, Calabogie, ON K0H 1H0, Canada Description: On-hill warm-up and ski assessment sessions (to facilitate assignment), introduction to teaching aids on the learning hill. Sun Dec 18, 2016 9am - 3pm New volunteer supplementary training (Change)2 Course Conductors: Malcolm McKinley (CSIA I, CADS III Course Conductor) Al McLarty (CSIA II, CADS III) Where: Calabogie Peaks Resort, 30 Barrett Chute Rd, Calabogie, ON K0H 1H0, Canada Description: Warm-up, teaching aids on Green terrain, review and coaching. 2 The previous plan was to hold one day just for new volunteers separately, then have new volunteers join everyone else for the second day. Owing to schedule compression, all mandatory training will be held on the same day (December 17th) which would not allow for this. This additional module is progressive to the foundation training offered on December 17th and is highly recommended for all new volunteers. Version 7 3 December 12, 2016 CADS Calabogie Peaks and Mount Pakenham Training Schedule - 2017 Volunteers Returning for the Second Year The following is considered to be the minimum training for volunteers who have completed just one year of service as a volunteer with the CADS program. Second year volunteers are also encouraged to attend the CADS certification Level I Autism Spectrum Disorder/Cognitively Impaired module scheduled for 1pm – 3pm on November 12th 2016 (see CADS Certification section). Version 7 4 December 12, 2016 CADS Calabogie Peaks and Mount Pakenham Training Schedule - 2017 All Other Returning Volunteers In order to satisfy program requirements, all volunteers must complete some form of annual training. While all volunteers are welcome to attend any scheduled non- certification training, the following is considered to be the minimum and is mandatory. Version 7 5 December 12, 2016 CADS Calabogie Peaks and Mount Pakenham Training Schedule - 2017 Part II – Other Training Pre-Season and Prep The following training is offered to help volunteers to build strength and skills that will assist them in working with our skiers. Everyone is welcome, but we would ask that only certified CADS Level I instructors (or very strong and experienced volunteers) attend the Level II certification prep session. This is an informal day that will allow volunteers to work with equipment and practice. The day will also include a ski improvement/pre-season workout session to help you get your ski legs back. This training is intended solely for CADS Level I certified instructors. Work on tougher terrain and with different equipment. Learn to ski in a sit ski. Version 7 8 December 12, 2016 CADS Calabogie Peaks and Mount Pakenham Training Schedule - 2017 Ski Improvement This optional training is intended to help volunteers improve their general skiing skills.
