Kirkland Crossings May 2021 The Origin of Mother's Day he present-day celebration of Mother's Day began in the year 1908 when Anna Jarvis organized a memorial for her mother, also named Ann Jarvis who was a T peace activist and cared for the wounded soldiers of the American Civil War. The event was held at the St Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, which currently holds the International Mother's Day Shrine. Daughter Anna began the task of getting support for the celebration of Mother's Day in the United States in 1905 after her mother died that same year. She wanted to honor all the mothers of the world who had done a lot for their family and society. Due to her continuous efforts, most of the US states by 1911 started celebrating Mother's Day as a local holiday and the West Virginia, the home state of Jarvis. became the first state to declare it a holiday in 1910. Finally, the second Sunday of May was officially designated as Mother's Day in the USA and was declared a national holiday after Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of United States of America, signed the proclamation in the year 1914. In this way, the present Mother's Day came into existence in the USA and the same date is also selected by countries like India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Italy, Singapore, Belgium, and a lot more other countries. Why do we celebrate Mother's Day? Mother's Day is celebrated in various parts of the world to express respect, honor and love towards mothers.

NATIONAL SIBLINGS DAY THE READING / TAPESCRIPT National Siblings Day (NSD) is celebrated on April 10 each year in the USA. It is the brainchild of Claudia A. Evart, who created it after the deaths of her brother and sister. She wanted a day for all Americans to think about the importance of the relationships they have with their brothers and sisters. She created a Siblings Day Foundation to establish this special day and has managed to get 40 state governors to declare Siblings Day in their states. More and more people are accepting NSD and it now has a “Special Mark” from the US Patent and Trademark Office. If it keeps growing in popularity, it could be up there on the holiday calendar with Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Do you ever stop and think just how important your brothers and sisters are to you? Do you ever wonder what life would be like without a brother or sister, to be an only child? Our siblings are quite often the people with whom we have the longest relations. More often than not, we are together in infancy, play together, grow up together and grow old together.

This practice was for the most part discontinued by the House of Representatives in January 1995, although the Senate continues to issue sense of the Senate resolutions recommending the establishment of commemoratives. It has now become standard practice for special observances to be designated by a proclamation issued by the President. A recent noteworthy departure from current congressional policy is P.L. 107-89, which designates September 11 as Patriot Day and calls upon the President to issue an annual proclamation calling on the American people to commemorate Patriot Day. This report is a chronological list of these proclamations for 2002 and 2003, indicating the proclamation number and its Federal Register citation.
