26TH ANNUAL TINNER HILL MUSIC FESTIVAL BAND BIOS

SISTER SPARROW & THE DIRTY BIRDS

For nearly a decade, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds has been hailed for its explosive brand of modern soul, equally celebrated for three studio albums and electrifying live performances. Lead singer Arleigh Kincheloe grew up in an intensely musical family in New York’s Catskill Mountains, and co-founded Sister Sparrow and The Dirty Birds with her brother Jackson. Based in Brooklyn, NY, the seven-piece band has earned a reputation as one of the hardest-working outfits anywhere in the world, playing upwards of 150 shows each year including headline dates, sold out residencies, and top festivals. “They may be from Brooklyn, but the fiery brass and gospel-infused funk emanating from Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds is rooted in Memphis soul,” writes the LA Times. “Their rhythmic wheelhouse combines big-city grit and down-home sweetness with a little bit of Americana twang.”

Known far and wide as the impossibly big-voiced leader of this soul collective, Arleigh Kincheloe has made an astonishing leap forward taking the classic brass-fueled Dirty Birds sound and turning it into something altogether new: a soul-blasted, contemporary pop sound, both timeless yet utterly now. In addition to her strikingly strong vocals, her songwriting showcases her growing muscle as an individualistic, communicative songwriter. BIG SAM’S FUNKY NATION

When you think of New Orleans, the city’s foremost flambeaux-lit traditions of Mardi Gras, Bourbon Street, voodoo, po’ boys, beads, gumbo, and second line undoubtedly come to mind. You can also count Big Sam’s Funky Nation among those NOLA treasures.

Known for a boisterous blend of funk, jazz, rock, and hip-hop, nothing short of seismic live “experiences,” and a whole lot of Southern charm, Big Sam’s Funky Nation might very well be The Big Easy’s best kept secret. No other place could birth such an undeniably unpredictable and downright unique collective.

Powered by jaw-dropping technical talent and uncontainable energy on stage, their performances have become the stuff of legend. Big Sam ensures you’re not just a part of the crowd but “a part of the show, dancing and singing along.” As much as Big Sam’s Funky Nation represents the beating heart of New Orleans, they ultimately do so for funk music as well. “When you see us live or listen to our records, we’re all going to have a good time,” said Williams. “That’s what funk is all about. That’s what New Orleans is all about. That’s what Big Sam’s Funky Nation is all about. If you come to a show, you’re going to party. That’s what we’re here for.” Website: https://www.bigsamsfunkynation.com/ Promotional Assets Here (Hi-res photos, blank posters, etc.)

26TH ANNUAL TINNER HILL MUSIC FESTIVAL BAND BIOS

The Wailers’ Julian “Junior” Marvin (cont'd)

Junior’s rock band “Hanson” was signed to Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s Manticore label, and he appeared on their debut album. He also did sessions work with Island recording artists Stomu Yamashta, , and Toots & The Maytals. In 1977, Junior was invited to join both Stevie Wonder’s band and & The Wailers. His parents and musician friends helped him to accept Bob Marley invitation because they were both Jamaicans…and the rest is history. “Exodus” was Junior’s first album with Bob Marley & The Wailers. He was featured on all of the subsequent Bob Marley and The Wailers albums, touring the world with Marley until his death in 1981. Since then, Junior has released four CDs with The Wailers as well as numerous solo projects. He can also be found on CDs by , , Israel Vibrations, Culture, and others.

After touring with many incarnations of The Wailers, Junior has now stepped out to front his own version of The Wailers, playing and singing all of the Bob Marley & The Wailers hits the way Marley intended them to be heard. In addition, Junior has a new release dropping worldwide in 2019 entitled “The Message of Love”. Website: http://www.juniormarvinswailers.com/

LIL’ ED AND THE BLUES IMPERIALS

In Chicago, a city overflowing with unrivaled blues talent, world-renowned Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials have been standing tall for almost 30 years. The band’s big sound, fueled by Lil’ Ed’s gloriously rollicking slide work and deep blues string bending along with his rough-edged, soulful vocals, is as real and hard-hitting as it gets. The Chicago Sun-Times says, “Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials are the hottest purveyors of bottleneck boogie to come out of Chicago since Hound Dog Taylor.”

Lil’ Ed Williams comes to the blues naturally. His uncle, Chicago slide guitar king and master songwriter J.B. Hutto, taught him how to feel – not just play – the blues. Nine albums and thousands of performances later, Lil’ Ed is now universally hailed as a giant of the genre. Lil’ Ed and The Blues Imperials — bassist (and Ed’s half-brother) James “Pookie” Young, guitarist Mike Garrett and drummer Kelly Littleton — have remained together for nearly 30 years (an extraordinary feat for any group), the band fueling Ed’s songs with their rock- solid, road-tested, telepathic musicianship. Their spontaneous and unpredictable live shows have become legendary among blues fans worldwide.

The Associated Press says, “Williams fills Chicago’s biggest shoes with more life and heat than anyone on stage today.” Their infectious energy, joyful showmanship and masterful playing have been honed to a razor’s edge by their many years together. Lil’ Ed, Pookie, Mike and Kelly have seen sports stars and presidents, musical fads and fashion trends come and go, meanwhile, their fiery music has more than stood the test of time. “We’re not band members,” says Williams, “we’re family, and families stay together.” Night after night, gig after riotous gig, the musical family called Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials bring their big, dynamic Chicago blues sound to fans across the country and around the world. Tinner Hill Music Festival : 19 PERFORMERS Moonshine Society featuring Ron Holloway

When three friends from Berklee College of Music came together in 2009, they never dreamed their style of high energy roots rock, soulful blues and New Orleans tinged R&B would have them touring around the world so quickly. Often compared to , Bonnie Raitt, and Alabama Shakes, their shows keep audiences dancing, heads nodding, and the drinks flowing. Since landing on the name Moonshine Society after toasting with drinks under the moon in Washington, DC, they’ve performed in Asia, Cuba, and throughout the US. The band has not only cultivated their own modern take on traditional sounds but created a community of musicians who are all a part of the Society. Lead singer Black Betty considers this to be her band’s biggest strength in a time when radio music seems to favor synthe- sized sounds over human players. “There will always be a place for great musicians, just like I believe there will always be a place for blues in the music industry,” says Black Betty. “It might be disguised under labels such as roots rock, jam band, or southern soul. But it’s there. Furthermore, I believe there is a place for women in blues music- now more than ever. We have too much to write about these days.”

Tinner Hill Music Festival : 20 PERFORMERS Moonshine Society featuring Ron Holloway

In 2012, three members were inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame for their work with legendary harmonica player Charlie Sayles. They have opened for numerous artists including Johnny Winter, George Clinton, Tower of Power, The Family Stone, Roomful of Blues, The Nighthawks, Mud Morganfield, WuTang Clan, Tab Benoit, Snoop Dogg, Peaches, Indigenous, and Samantha Fish. Members have also performed and recorded with John Mayer, , Susan Tedeschi, , Danny Gatton, Brian Eno, Jason Ricci and others. Moonshine Society’s debut album, Live in Shanghai, was recorded at the House of Blues and Jazz in Shanghai, China after Chinese film star and club owner, Lin Dong Fu, invited the band for a three month stay.
