Sports FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2013 Genia’s yo-yo Photo of the day season takes an upward turn ROSARIO: Australia scrum-half Will Genia’s yo-yo season took an upward turn when he was recalled for tomorrow’s Rugby Championship Test in Argentina. Genia comes in for Nic White in the only change to the starting line-up from that beaten 28- 8 by South Africa in Cape Town last weekend. White drops to the bench for the wooden-spoon showdown at Estadio Gigante de Arroyito in Rosario, 300 kilometers north west of Buenos Aires. There is also one change among the replacements with utility back Bernard Foley coming in for Chris Feauai-Sautia, scorer of the Wallaby try against the Springboks. Papua New Guinea-born Genia, 25, has skippered Australia this year in the absence of injured lock James Horwill. But he was axed by coach Ewen McKenzie after leading the Wallabies in a humili- ating 26-point drubbing by South Africa in Brisbane. White impressed sufficiently to stay on the pitch for the full 80 minutes as Australia squeezed a 14-13 home win over the Pumas in a dour duel. But his field-kicking came unstuck in Cape Town and the Wallabies fared far better when Genia came on for the second half. McKenzie, a Super Rugby title- winning coach with the Queensland Reds, replaced New Zealander Robbie Deans after a 2-1 series loss to the British and Irish Lions. But the former Wallaby prop has experienced a baptism of fire with home and away reverses against the New Zealand All Blacks and the Springboks.

  • A Lot of People Have Asked How Can You Squeeze Another Game at the End of a Long Season, but We See This As an Honour
“A lot of people have asked how can you squeeze another game at the end of a long season, but we see this as an honour... But the week is also a reward, because it is not as tense, you enjoy it with the boys and can have a few beers.” - Rassie Erasmus Volume 1, Number 18 06 December 2018 Register to receive your own free weekly newsletter at www.leopardnewsletters.co.za Fantastic Win for the Barbarians After a disappointing tour of the northern hemisphere, Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus honoured his commitment to coach the Barbarians against Argentina last weekend, and came away with the win. The fact that he selected no fewer than 13 current Springboks in his invitational side suggests that he considered the match an opportunity for more Springbok experimentation. The Baabaas scored first after a perfectly-timed inside ball from Schalk Brits paved the way for the first try by Juan Manuel Leguizamon, the Argentina international, scoring against his countrymen inside The Baabaas were first to score in the second half three minutes. But then, in the space of slightly more with Siya Kolisi cantering over but a Julian Montoya than 20 minutes, Argentina scored four tries, all of try and Joaquin Diaz Bonilla conversion restored which were converted. Argentina’s advantage barely five minutes later and then the Baabaas crossed the line again. With the Baabaas trailing 28-7 after spending considerable time in Argentina’s red zone, referee In the 75th minute Lood de Jager powered over for John Lacey awarded the home side a well-deserved the Baabaas fifth try and set Elton Jantjies up to level penalty try to take the score to 28-14, which was also the scores with four minutes left.

  • Rabodirect PRO12 PREVIEW 2013/14 ROUND 15 PREVIEWS ROUND 15 FIXTURES
RaboDirect PRO12 PREVIEW 2013/14 Round 15: 20th – 23rd February 2014 ROUND 15 PREVIEWS With the international weekend kicking off on Friday night, the majority of the RaboDirect PRO12 games take place on Sunday, however Cardiff Blues open round 15 with their game against current champions, Leinster at the Arms Park on Thursday evening and if past form is any guide Cardiff will have their work cut out to claim victory in this match. The sole game on Saturday is also in Wales with Edinburgh Rugby visiting Llanelli to play Scarlets, who missed out last round due to the weather in Belfast. The Scots do not travel well, so Scarlets must be hoping to put their own home record back on track in this fixture. The remaining four games take place on Sunday, with a TV double header in Italy, Benetton Treviso hosting Ulster and Zebre facing another Irish province, Connacht. Connacht’s victory over Edinburgh last time out saw them swap places with Zebre at the foot of the table, which could be reversed if Zebre claim this tie. Ulster on the other hand will be hoping they can make up some ground on the teams above them in the Play-Off zone. At the same time the remaining two Welsh regions will be in action in the principality. Newport Gwent Dragons opponents’ Glasgow Warriors, currently sit in 4th place in the table courtesy of one more win than Ulster, and still have two games in hand over the three teams above them. The outstanding game must be the pick of the weekend, leaders Munster travelling to face 3rd placed Ospreys, who claimed a record victory over Treviso in their last game at the Liberty Stadium.
