Youth Residency Role Who we are

Camden Arts Centre is a place for world-class contemporary art exhibitions and education. With at the core of the programme, Camden Arts Centre strives to involve members of the public in the ideas and processes of today's artists, and the artists who inspire them. In addition to gallery spaces, the building includes studios which schools can use free of charge and in which people of all ages and abilities can learn skills in ceramics, , and writing as part of the courses programme. Youth Residency – what’s that?

A residency is where an uses a space for a period of time in order to make new work and develop new ideas with practical support. There are two opportunities for Youth Collective artists to have a residency here at Camden Arts Centre over the summer period. The residency will be based in the Drawing Studio and can be used for you to make new and exciting work, test out ideas and explore new materials and processes. This 6 week residency will allow you to develop your art practice and continue working on ideas that have developed from the Youth Collective sessions.

What’s in it for you?

• Access to a studio space to develop ideas and build on your art practice in a supported environment. • Artist mentoring scheme: You will be assigned an artist mentor to guide and support your learning throughout the residency. This will be either Fred Lanke or Beverley Bennett the Youth Collective associate artists. • Staff mentoring: Learn about different ways of exhibiting and gain insight into becoming a professional artist with studio visits from members of staff who have valuable expertise and knowledge. • Support from the Education Team. • Budget to spend on materials. • An opportunity for you to have an event to showcase your work made from the residency.

Who are we looking for?

• A member of Youth Collective who attends regularly. • Enthusiasm and an active interest for making art work and pursuing an art practice. • An interest in developing work or continuing ideas that have come from the Youth Collective sessions. • Someone who is available for the duration of the 6 week residency (upto 3 days per week). There is flexibility to account for already planned holidays, jobs, other commitments as agreed in advance.

Key information

• Length of residency is 6 weeks • Dates of residency can be between mid July until end of August. There is also flexibility within this. • You will be assigned a staff mentor which will be either Gemma Wright (Head of Education) or Amelia Martin (Education ) who will be your point of contact. • There is no fee attached however space, materials and travel costs to and from the centre will be provided • Travel costs to and from the centre will be covered. • On Saturday 15 June there will be an opportunity to talk about ideas for your proposal in advance of submitting. Please get in touch with Amelia to arrange a time between 1.30 – 2.30pm where you can have support in preparing for your proposal.
