Box 823 12 – 14 East Street Kingston Jamaica National Library of Jamaica Cataloguing in Publication Data Jamaican national bibliography. – Vol. p. ; cm. 1SSN 0075-2291 1. Bibliography, National – Jamaica 015.7292 - dc20 Copyright 2017 by National Library of Jamaica P r e f a c e The Jamaican National Bibliography aims to list all materials published in Jamaica, works by Jamaicans published outside of the country, as well as works about Jamaica, to describe each work in detail, and to give the subject matter of each work. The material catalogued is based on items received in the National Library of Jamaica. The Library undertakes to collect all materials pertinent to Jamaica, whether by purchasing items or by soliciting donations. The Jamaican National Bibliography is produced by the staff of the National Library of Jamaica. Arrangement The bibliography is arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification, 22nd edition, and catalogued according to the Anglo—American Cataloguing Rules, 2nd edition 1998 revision. It is arranged in two sections: a classified subject section and an index arranged alphabetically by author and title etc. A list of Jamaican publishers is included at the end of section two. The most detailed information about an item is given in the Classified Subject Section. This includes the fullest form of the name the author uses in his/her works, the full title, editor, place of publication, publisher, date of publication, number of pages types of illustrations, series, size, notes, ISBN, ISSN, price and binding. Both serials and books are included in this section. A shorter entry is given in the Index where the entries are arranged alphabetically under the name of the author, title or corporate body. The edition of the work, the publisher, price and binding, ISBN and class number are also included in the Index. S a m p l e E n t r i e s Classified Subject Index 338.47917292 – Jamaica. A related mandate is to compile and publish the national bibliography which is the list of material published in the country, authored by its citizens and about the country, regardless of place of publication. The occasion of Jamaica’s 50th anniversary was seen as an opportunity to fill in the gaps in the national bibliography which had been prepared sporadically: 1964 – 1969; 1975 – 1986; 1998- 2003; and so the Jamaican National Bibliography 1962-2012 (JNB 50) Volume 1 was created. Arrangement This volume of the bibliography is arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) and catalogued using the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules. The information about an item includes the name the author uses in his/her works, the full title, edition, publisher, date of publication, number of pages, types of illustrations, series, size, notes, ISBN, price and binding.

They are linguistically related to their neighbours, such as the Edo, Igbo and Yoruba, all grouped under the Niger-Kordofanian proto-phylum of languages. As a result of the referrals to these people by eminent historians as „city-states‟ and „trading states‟ made it imperative for this study to painstakingly review the traditional economic system of the Ijo, especially of the Eastern Niger Delta states. This entailed a survey of their land and tenure system; agricultural products and practices; crafts and manufacturing; and trade and marketing in the pre-Atlantic trade period. Having considered the primordial socio-political and economic institutions in Ijoland, the impact of the trans- Atlantic trade nexus the transformations it wrought on the Ijo society; the economic impact of the Atlantic trade: its attendant accumulation of wealth, therefore power; the specifications and specializations in the political apparatuses; and the eventual move away from the village assemblies of the various Ijo states to the centrality of the political institutions as evidenced in the case of the Elem Kalabari, and of course in the other city-states were equally surveyed in detail.

  • Jamaica's Parishes and Civil Registration Districts
Jamaican registration districts Jamaica’s parishes and civil registration districts [updated 2010 Aug 15] (adapted from a Wikimedia Commons image) Parishes were established as administrative districts at the English conquest of 1655. Though the boundaries have changed over the succeeding centuries, parishes remain Jamaica’s fundamental civil administrative unit. The three counties of Cornwall (green, on the map above), Middlesex (pink), and Surrey (yellow) have no administrative relevance. The present parishes were consolidated in 1866 with the re-division of eight now- extinct entities, none of which will have civil records. A good historical look at the parishes as they changed over time may be found on the privately compiled “Jamaican Parish Reference,” http://prestwidge.com/river/jamaicanparishes.html (cited 2010 Jul 1). Civil registration of vital records was mandated in 1878. For civil recording, parishes were subdivided into named registration districts. Districts record births, marriages (but not divorces), and deaths since the mandate. Actual recording might not have begun in a district until several years later after 1878. An important comment on Jamaican civil records may be found in the administrative history available on the Registrar General’s Department Website at http://apps.rgd.gov.jm/history/ (cited 2010 Jul 1). This list is split into halves: 1) a list of parishes with their districts organized alphabetically by code; and 2) an alphabetical index of district names as of the date below the title. As the Jamaican population grows and districts are added, the list of registration districts lengthens. The parish code lists are current to about 1995. Registration districts created after that date are followed by the parish name rather than their district code.

  • Claim No. 2007Hcv03543
IN THE SUPREME COURT OF JUDICATURE OF JAMAICA IN THE CIVIL DIVISION CLAIM NO. 2007HCV03543 BETWEEN DERRICK LATTIBEAUDIERE CLAIMANT AND PAULETTE LATTIBEAUDIERE DEFENDANT Mr. Gordon Steer for Claimant, instructed by Chambers, Bunny & Steer. Mrs. Jacqueline Samuels-Brown & Mrs. Tameka Jordan for Defendant, instructed by Jacqueline Samuels-Brown & CO. Heard in Chambers: July 21, 2009, July 29, 2009, October 27, 2009 and November 23, 2009. Coram: D. McIntosh: The hearing of this matter lasted over several months. The constraints of time, the unavailability of personnel and the ongoing attempts of counseling and mediation, frying to achieve an amicable resolution all contributed to delays. The parties who were married for over thirty (30) years are now irrevocably separated and are in a bitter conflict over the division of property accumulated by them during the period of their marriage. They met each other while. they were both students at the University of the West Indies, they became friends and perhaps starry eyed lovers as they sought their academic qualifications. By 1976 they were Happily Married. This union started off well. They were an enterprising couple which worked together pooling their resources and were unselfish in their quest for the success of each other and their marriage. Their family increased by two children and they prospered materially. There was great upward mobility. It is apparent that from the material successes, the fame and the fortune, there emanated dangerous pitfalls. There were rifts causing periodic separations which culminated in their irrevocable separation in 2007, from each other. Shortly after this separation, the claimant Derrick Lattibeaudiere filed this Fixed Date Claim Form seeking the following declarations and remedies: (a) That the Claimant and the defendant own in equal shares the following: 1) 1b Belvedere Crescent, Forrest Hill.

Africa Media Review Vol. 5 No. 2.1991 ©African Council for Communication Education Towards the Decolonization of the African Film by Hyginus Ekwuazi* Abstract This paper identifies the inalienable features which characterize the truly indigen- ous African film. It argues that the pre-eminence of the USA and India in the international movie marketplace translates into the colonization of both the medium and the industry in the importing country. It works out the rubrics for an African aesthetic of the film with examples from the works of leading African film makers. Dr. Hyginus Ekwuazi is a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. 96 ... a viable black cinema cannot survive under the shadow of Holly- wood reproducing Hollywood's dominant signifying paradigms.
