Our aim at the start of the 2013 financial year was to increase the very small surplus from 2012 into one that would make us secure and present to you a financially stable club. All of this year’s events made a profit, with the exception of IROQ: that loss has eroded away most of the surplus, leaving the BSCC in a tight financial position going into 2014. The events calendar for 2014 has now been finalised; it includes Social Fun Run Events / Navigation Series, Short Course Rallies, four QRC Events, one National Off Road Event and one International Event. All of these events will certainly need your help, so we invite you to contact the club to register your intention to assist. With a new‐look IROQ event only five months away, Clerk of Course ‐ Paul Woodward requests your help. The Board is offering to help you to become a licensed official, or to upgrade your licence to a higher level. Believe me, it’s easy. Simply phone Margaret Mackay, myself or any Board Member or Official. Remember, all of the Clerks of Course will welcome you with open arms and appreciate your assistance. Sadly, this year has seen the passing of a number of our rally friends: Alan Brown, James McIntosh, John Rogers, John Goasdoue and Chris Lane. Our thoughts are with their families and friends at this time. With the year now drawing swiftly to a close, the Board wishes you Season's Greetings and best wishes for the coming year, and looks forward to a happy environment and the club’s strong financial position in 2014. Please remember, your club needs your experience and help. Barry Neuendorff President. Hanson and co-driver Leigh Wells took victory in a Jimco-Nissan Pro Buggy by 4 minutes 54 seconds over Rentsch and his father Ian, in a similar car. Queenslanders Ryan Taylor and Josh Curran came home third, a further 2 min. 40 sec behind in their Tatum-Chev. The event was run on private land at Mulgowie, in the lush Lockyer Valley 70 kms west of Brisbane. Conditions were dry and dusty, with little obvious sign of major floods that devastated the region in 2011-12 and early this year. TJM Pro Locker Lockyer 300 Clerk-of-Course Barry Neuendorff said the event brought more than 40 crews plus their supporters, officials and spectators from around Australia. “The welcome and support we’ve had from the local community shows the Lockyer Valley has recovered superbly as a key agricultural and tourism region,” Mr Neuendorff said. “Our course went through 12 private properties and all the owners were wonderful. We look forward to bringing back the TJM Pro Locker Lockyer 300 and the Australian Off Road Championship around the same time next year.” 16/23 Ashtan Place, Banyo QLD 4014 Phone No: 0414 335 862 www.lockyer300.com.au Email [email protected] (2) The Lockyer 300 win was the first of the season for Hanson, who clinched his own maiden championship there in 2012. He poured on the pressure in Saturday morning’s prologue and the first three of six 50- kilometre laps to build an early advantage in the dusty conditions. “We knew it was going to be dusty and that it would be important to win the prologue. We took that and the first two laps on Saturday and that gave us a five-and-a-half minute lead overnight,” Hanson said. “We won the third lap (on Sunday morning) but on lap four caught some back-markers, which held us up a bit. “Shannon started to go for it in the last three laps, but the dust wasn’t a problem for us so we were able to stay ahead. We’re wrapt that he won the championship.” After a consistent season with two firsts and two seconds, Rentsch led the drivers’ standings from Hayden Bentley going into the crucial final round and approached the early laps cautiously. He then opened the taps on his Jimco’s twin-turbo Nissan V6 to win the final three laps, setting the weekend’s fastest time of 47 min. 54 sec. despite not having contested the Queensland course before. “We took a conservative approach at the start because our goal was to wrap up the championship. We went for it today and had a clear run on the last lap, but we lost too much time yesterday to Matt to make it up,” Rentsch said at the finish. “It was our first time here. The track was very challenging with lots of step up-and-down hills and rocks and trees. 16/23 Ashtan Place, Banyo QLD 4014 Phone No: 0414 335 862 www.lockyer300.com.au Email [email protected] (3) “It’s great to win our sixth championship but Mark Burrows has won seven, so I guess that could be a goal now – that and to keep having fun.” Rentsch’s only possible rival going into the final round, Finke Desert Race winner Hayden Bentley, finished fifth yesterday but scored enough points to claim second in the championship ahead of Hanson.
