Mono and stereo versions have an identical sleeve and the same number on the back (S/T4221 and S/T4222) - the mono version has "T-4221" and "T-4222" on beige 'strobe' labels, while the stereo has "ST-4221" and "ST-4222" on green 'strobe' labels. Unusually for the time, the stereo was issued with a small "S" sticker on the front of the sleeve, with no printed "stereo" rosette on the back. There are two sets of addresses, one on the bottom of the flipback (no doubt a leftover from the 1963 one-disc version, S-7063), and one at the end of the text. Issued again in 1968 and 1969 - differences may be in the prefix (S/ instead of S/T), label layout (number at right instead of left), sleeve (non-flipback) and address combination/s. 1963 addresses: 330 Flinders Lane, Melbourne; 134 Castlereagh St., Sydney; 260 Adelaide St., Brisbane; 62 Pulteney St., Adelaide; Barnett's Buildings, Council Ave., Perth 1967 addresses: 299 Flinders Lane, Melbourne 177 Elizabeth Street, Sydney Newspaper House, 93 Queen Street, Brisbane 60 Pulteney Street, Adelaide Barnett's Buildings, Council Avenue, Perth Barcode and Other Identifiers Matrix / Runout (Side 1 Label): 2YEA182 Matrix / Runout (Side 2 Label): 2YEA183 Matrix / Runout (Side 3 Label): 2YEA184 Matrix / Runout (Side 4 Label): 2YEA185 Matrix / Runout (Side 1 runout - stamped): 1 2YEA 182-1 Matrix / Runout (Side 2 runout - stamped): 1 2YEA 183-7 Matrix / Runout (Side 3 runout - stamped): 2YEA 184-2 Matrix / Runout (Side 4 runout - stamped): 2YEA 185-6 Other versions Category Artist Title (Format) Label Category Country Year Gilbert & Gilbert & Sullivan Sullivan - - Glyndebourne Glyndebourne Festival Chorus, His Festival Chorus, ALP 1757/8 Pro Arte Master's ALP 1757/8 UK 1959 Pro Arte Orchestra*, Sir Voice Orchestra*, Sir Malcolm Sargent Malcolm - Iolanthe (2xLP) Sargent World Cassette C 00246, C Gilbert & Iolanthe (2xCass, C 00246, C Club, World Australia 1977 00247 Sullivan Album, Club, RE) 00247 Cassette Club World Record Club, World T-4221, T-4221, Iolanthe (2xLP, Record T-4222, Gilbert & T-4222, Album, Mono, Club, World Australia 1967 S/T4221, Sullivan S/T4221, Club) Record S/T4222 S/T4222 Club, World Record Club His Master's Gilbert & Gilbert & SXDW 3047, Voice, His SXDW 3047, Sullivan, Sir Sullivan, Sir SXDW 30471, Master's SXDW 30471, UK Unknown Malcolm Malcolm Sargent SXDW 30472 Voice, His SXDW 30472 Sargent - Iolanthe (2xLP) Master's Voice His Master's Voice, His SXLP 30112, Gilbert & Gilbert & SXLP 30112, Master's SXLP 30113, Sullivan, Sir Sullivan, Sir SXLP 30113, Voice, His UK 1968 SXLP.30112, Malcolm Malcolm Sargent SXLP.30112, Master's SXLP.30113 Sargent - Iolanthe (2xLP) SXLP.30113 Voice, His Master's Voice Related Music albums to Iolanthe by Gilbert & Sullivan William Boyce - Patrick Burrowes · William Purefoy · Andrew Watts · Richard Edgar-Wilson · Michael George · The Choir Of New College, Oxford, The Hanover Band · Graham Lea-Cox - Ode For St Cecilia's Day Gilbert & Sullivan, The Glyndebourne Festival Chorus, Pro Arte Orchestra Conducted By Sir Malcolm Sargent - The Pirates Of Penzance Gilbert & Sullivan - Sir Malcolm Sargent, Pro Arte Orchestra - Overtures Sir Malcolm Sargent Conducts Vaughan Williams - Sir Malcolm Sargent Conducts Vaughan Williams Gilbert And Sullivan, Sir Malcolm Sargent, Sir Vivian Dunn - Ruddigore Schumann - The Masterworks - Works For Chorus And Orchestras (CD 6) Gilbert & Sullivan, Sir Malcolm Sargent - Patience Handel, Sir Thomas Beecham Conducting Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - Solomon.

HISTORICAL VOCAL RECORDINGS ROSSINI: Le Comte Ory. Michel Roux, basso (Robert); Jeannette Sinclair, soprano (Alice); Juan Oncina, tenor (Count Ory); Monica Sinclair, con tralto (Ragonde); Ian Wallace, baritone (The Governor); Cora Canne Meijer, mezzo-soprano (Isolier); Sari Barabas, soprano (Countess Adele); Dermot Troy, tenor (A Young Nobleman); The Glyndebourne Festival Or chestra and Chorus; Vittorio Gui, conductor. EMI RLS 744. "The delicious Comte Ory," wrote Chorley in 1854, "has, with all the beauty of its music, never been a favorite anywhere. Even in the theater for which it was written, the Grand Oplra of Paris, where it still keeps its place - when Cinti-Damoreau was the heroine - giving to the music all the playfulness, finish, and sweetness which could possibly be given - the work was heard with but a tranquil pleasure ••• " He goes on to blame the libretto (by Scribe and Delaistre-Poirson) which in its day was indeed rather shocking, with Count Ory's "gang" gaining admission, disguised as nuns, to the castle of the Countess he is pursuing - male voices and all! The opera was rediscovered in the 1950's and enjoyed a real success at Glyndebourne in 1954. The recording was made two years later. The New York City Opera finally got around to Le Comte Ory a year or so ago. There are several obvious reasons for the neglect of this gem of an opera. Though the score is full of delights there is no Largo al facto tum or Una voce poco fa. The arias are brilliant but not sure fire. It is not a vehicle; the soprano and tenor roles call for virtuosity of a high order, but this is an ensemble opera and no one can take over the spotlight.
