Steve Harvey The latest date for entries to September’s Signpost is Wednesday the 15th of August at 6:00 p.m. BISHOP OF LINCOLN'S LETTER Dear friends, Many of you will be reading this during the month of August which for those of us in employment, and particularly those with school age children, is a time for holiday. In my experience, I find that people tend to spread their holidays into July and September but even if you're not going away, August is a quieter month. There are fewer activities and it is an opportunity to rest and reflect on our busy lives. The proper meaning of the word 'recreation' is to re-create. This time of year gives us a chance to sit back and reflect on our priorities. The last few months have given us some interesting instances to think about: the celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty's accession to the throne gave us an eloquent example of someone whose life is dictated by duty; and the Olympics and Paralympics, which conclude during August, remind us of the dedication and hard work that young people put into their chosen vocation. Even if we are not - as I am not - in the first flush of youth, the example of the Queen's dedication and young people's hard work and commitment can encourage us to think about how we ourselves can contribute to building community in our area: through work, through leisure or through our networks of family and friends. How can we help to build a better Britain and as Christians, how can we help to uncover the Kingdom of God in the light of the world? Have a happy and restful August, but please use the opportunity to reflect on new opportunities and priorities. +Christopher Lincoln: 4 Signpost LORD OF LIGHT O Lord of light who has called us out of By your love restrain our censorious darkness, prepare our hearts with speech and teach us to commend; by your sympathy, reveal to us the ranks of those wisdom enlighten out plans and direct our that are struggling upward, that we may endeavours for the common good and give cheer and support them. Central Lincolnshire Five Year Land Supply Report 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2023 (Published January 2018) Page 1 of 31 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1. The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF)1 requires local planning authorities to identify and update annually a supply of specific deliverable sites sufficient to provide five years’ worth of housing against their housing requirements. 1.2. This report sets out the five year land supply position for Central Lincolnshire for the period 2018 to 2023. The ‘current year’ (2017/18) is not used in the calculation of the five year supply. This is to ensure that at any point during the current year the Five Year Land Supply Report will include a full five year supply of land. 1.3. Appendix 1 provides a summary of all sites and the predicted delivery rates during the five year period. This is based on monitoring data as at 31 March 2017 and as provided by each district (North Kesteven, West Lindsey and City of Lincoln) which make up Central Lincolnshire. 2. FIVE YEAR REQUIREMENT 2.1. The Central Lincolnshire Local Plan, which was adopted on 28 April 2017, identifies a housing requirement for 36,960 dwellings between 2012 and 2036 (or 1,540 dwellings per year over the 24 year plan period). This is based on evidence in the Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA) July 2015. 2.2. The basic five year land supply requirement between 2012 and 2036 is therefore 7,700 dwellings, as summarised in Table 1. Table 1: The Basic Five Year Land supply requirement 2018 to 2023 a Housing Requirement 1 April 2012 to 31 March 2036 36,960 (24 year period) b Average per year 1,540 a ÷ 24 c Basic five year requirement 7,700 b x 5 2.3.

  • Enclosure & Agricultural Improvement in North-West Lincolnshire from Circa 1600 to 1850
ENCLOSURE & AGRICULTURAL IMPROVEMENT IN NORTH-WEST LINCOLNSHIRE FROM CIRCA 1600 TO 1850. Thomas M. Smith, MA Thesis submitted to the University of Nottingham for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy July 2012 i Abstract This study sets out to establish the link between enclosure and agricultural improvement in a group of parishes in north-west Lindsey, Lincolnshire between the sixteenth century and the mid-nineteenth century. In particular it emphasises the continuity of enclosure history through time, rather than concentrating only on the period of parliamentary enclosure as has often been the case in the past, and on links to agricultural improvement which include land reclamation, draining and warping. It shows that a simple explanation of enclosure in terms of driving up rents and allowing individual farmers to take their own farming decisions, fails to take into account the particular local circumstances of this area. Using a combination of enclosure documents and related material such as glebe terriers, land tax assessments, census materials, the 1801 agricultural returns and estate papers it sets out to show how agricultural improvement transformed both the landscape and the farming techniques in this area. In this process it covers a range of related topics including landownership, population, and the socio-economic structure of the villages of north-west Lindsey. It shows clearly that in this area enclosure is as much as anything associated with land drainage, and with improvements brought about by warping. These processes were interwoven, and separating enclosure out as a single movement underestimates the complexity of the farming arrangements required to ensure the most productive farming in this area.
