The freedom to roam different realities gives us such great characters like a Vampire King , a psychotic serial killing spider-man, a gay spider-woman, a black female , an Ice-Girl, a gay Mariko Yashida as Sunfire, the list is endless, and on top of all this great stories and even whole arcs on the 'bad team' Weapon, all classic inclusive and diverse Marvel from the Noughties Apr 11, Shannon Appelcline rated it really liked it Shelves: comicscomics-marvelcomics-marvel-xmen. Legacy This V-Locks story has a really scary menace and several surprising turning points. The only thing holding it back is amateurish artwork [6. With an Iron First Fortunately the next story is a huge upswing, probably thanks to Winnick really doing something original. This is the story where Austen joins for a short run and immediately prov Legacy Earth Beyond that, it makes almost no sense. Exiles Ultimate Collection - Book 4 only thing of value is the increasing malevolence of the Time Broker s? All around a lot of fun. Singletons X- Men Unlimited Overall, pretty good Winnick in generalbut a disappointing mid-run by Austen. Aug 04, Lissibith rated it it was amazing Shelves: comic-tradessuperhero. Okay, so I thought the first volume of this was a little hard to read - not in a bad way, but in an emotional punch way. But then I got to rereading this one and It's hardly the only superhero series where bad things are constantly happening, but it seems more visceral in this one for some reason, and I tend to blame that on getting very attached to the characters in a remarkably short amount of time. An interesting thing that happens in this one is that And this time, we actually get a brief story, uncomfortable in a good way, from their tam's point of view. Now, this is the second time I've read this book, but the first time was a number of years ago. I've since widened my knowledge of the , and that makes it both better and worse. If I were the sort of person subject to making a big "Nooooo" I would have done so a few times during this book. The art continues to be lovely, a bit cartoony but in a way that adds to rather than distracts from the story, and the colors are wonderfully vibrant. As of a minute ago, I just finished issue 89 of the issue Exiles run. I personally started reading it in the or so when they started a long arc travelling across some familiar alternate universes. Since then, I've slowly been purchasing back issues an arc or so at a time and have finally Exiles Ultimate Collection - Book 4 in my run up to where I jumped off. I feel like these Judd Winick years are probably the stronges Without spoiling anything, I think I want to sort out some thoughts about this series as a whole. I feel like these Judd Winick years are probably the strongest years in the title and that his skill with character really shines through. Jim Calafiore really did the lion's share of the art duties through the whole series giving a consistent visual style. A few of the characters really stuck around, too, which I was pleasantly surprised by. When I first jumped on I got the impression that the cast was more revolving with people jumping in and out as the story deemed fit, but there were very few cast changes in the first half of the series. I think I need to come back after a few months and give it another good read and write a more in depth review. Since it's p I enjoyed this as much as the first ultimate collection, but it was a little more Exiles Ultimate Collection - Book 4 over the place with its stories. Since it's pretty much the very last thing that happens it will be interesting to see how it turns out, but my first impulse was to think of it as a way of killing off a maybe unpopular character and bringing back a VERY popular one although that very would could be a massive misreading. May 07, Michael Alexander rated it really liked it Shelves: graphic-novel. One of the best things about this series is that it's constantly changing. The story arcs are usually pretty short, only two to three issues. After that you get a new setting, a new world, a new mission, new characters. But you still get Age of Apocalypse, what happened next, the return of a great villain, the Time Broker mystery resolved and much more including crossovers with the and the New Universe! These are nice stories because Bedard starts to really take advantage of the continuity allowed-for by Exiles and thus begins to present a larger picture. Time Breakers This story has been a long, long time coming, and Bedard does a good job telling it. The inclusion of and other old elements from the series is nice, because it starts to give Exiles some real continuity for the first time. Destroy All Monsters The new world that the Exiles travel to is amusing, especially with the inclusion of the Shogun Warriors. World Tour: House of M Integrating Exiles with the House of M is an interesting change of pace, and an intriguing setup for the new series of arcs. Turns out to be my favorite of the series so far as the team finally investigates the of the Exiles and the Time Broker. And finally a terrific artist Paul P. Think I'll come back for Book 5. Oct 20, Joey rated it really liked it Shelves: comic. Apologies for any inadvertent spoilers in my previous review! This is right around the point I originally started reading, and it gave me my first impressions of the team and their goals. On rereading as part of the whole series, the events of this volume felt sudden but inevitable. While seemingly randomly wandering from universe to universe is something that could continue forever, Bedard had slowly been pushing towards this set of story arcs. The art duties, as always, are consistent and work Apologies for any inadvertent spoilers in my previous review! The art duties, as always, are consistent and work with the visual style the book had for all those issues. Apr 13, Holden Attradies rated it really liked it Shelves: fictionsequential-artsuper-heroes. Gotta say, this was an amazingly action packed volume. I enjoyed that once they found that out it left them still where they were, needing to still be the Exiles. The ever growing tension between and Sabertooth is incredible here. It doesn't seem to have come to a boiling point yet, but maybe they will continue to avoid it. May 18, Michael Alexander rated it liked it Shelves: graphic-novel. In this volume we get to peer behind the curtain and see what's really going on with the Exiles. There is also a story arc that ties in with House of M, the big Marvel event that was going on at the time. This volume is shorter than the others, but has an Age of Apocalypse handbook included. Jun 02, Michael Alexander rated it did not like it Shelves: graphic-novel. After 5 good volumes, it really stinks to see the series go out like this. This final volume is penned by Chris Claremont. I know that he's a comics icon, and has written some of the best loved story Exiles Ultimate Collection - Book 4 around, but this is not his best work. There is tons of meaningless exposition, characters narrating to themselves about what they're doing. He feels the need to describe every single thing that's happening, but that's what the art is for! Just bleh overall. Feb 09, HairyCrofter rated it did not like it. Chris Claremont just destroyed the fantastic work Tony Bedard had created so far. Bitterly disappointing! Apr 03, Shaoroun rated it it was ok Shelves: graphic-novel. Sure and are siblings, but the corps and I had never heard of until I read this series and her importance is lost on me. Nov 03, Baba rated it did not like it Shelves: x-men-verse- snikt. Mediocre compared to the rest of this great series, and worse of all the key plot thread left unresolved. To complete the series, one has got to read this as it does resolve the other key plot threads and sets the book up for the 'New Exiles'. A soft 6 out of Apr 04, Cihan rated it did not like it Shelves: comicsdropped. Chris Claremont ruining anything he touches. Jul 13, Shannon Appelcline rated it liked it Shelves: comicscomics-marvelcomics-marvel-xmen. Enemy of the Stars Claremont takes over the Exiles, and there are immediately some changes for the worse. First up, he takes the tight 2- or 3-part stories that Bedard wrote, and instead offers up a lengthy, stretched 5-parter. Stupid fights and a simulation fake-out a Claremont favorite! Beyond that, some characters suddenly start acting out of character: Power Princess leaves for pretty much no reason, despite the Enemy of the Stars Beyond that, some characters suddenly start acting out of character: Power Exiles Ultimate Collection - Book 4 leaves for pretty much no reason, despite the fact that she had purposefully joined the group; starts throwing shards that do damage rather than teleporting people; Heather claims to be a mutant; and everyone starts distrusting Morph in a way they hadn't in previous issues. In return we get some Claremontisms, like his trademark snappy dialogue and references to the Claremont eras of X-Men and Captain Britain. Home, Again Fortunately the next arc really picks up. The focus on mystery within the Crystal Palace is pretty cool My biggest problem is that the bugs wouldn't have left; they'd have picked a new team, as we've demonstrably seen. The Victor Von Doom world also offers some nice fake-outs. On the downside we get some poor characterization like Miguel falling instantly in love with not one, but two different women over the course of the arcand a last issue that feels like a space-filler. Still, it was mostly a fun read. Claremont makes good use of that in the first couple of issues, which are full of interesting character moments. Unfortunately, from there it turns into a big long fight that proves uninteresting. Home is Where the Heart Is A pretty cool non-Claremont issue. Overall, this volume is definitely a step down from what came before, but not nearly as horrible as I'd been led to believe … just "meh". Jul 14, David rated it it was amazing Shelves: comic-booksall-time-favorites. Ah, so very sad to have reached the end of this series, one of Marvel's finest. It ends on a fine note, well done, with my compliments to the team and all of the creators who had a hand along the way.
