The Moundbuilders saw a first-half lead grow to as many as seven points as they held the advantage for nearly the entire opening 20 minutes. Trailing 31-25, the Coyotes hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie things up before a Quintin Wallace (SR/Clarksville, Texas) shot with 18 seconds left gave Southwestern a 33-31 lead heading into halftime. Southwestern finished the first half shooting just under 50 percent from the floor, but 12 turnovers compared to KWU’s three allowed the home team to stay within striking distance, putting up 13 more shot attempts than the Builders. Southwestern held onto their slim margin for the first five minutes of the second half, with Kansas Wesleyan never allowing their deficit to go over five points before tying it up several times throughout the first half of the second frame. The Coyotes eventually went ahead at the 7:30 mark, setting up a close finish as each team continued to trade baskets. From that point, neither team’s lead surpassed three points and the game saw three different ties in the final two minutes alone. With just over a minute remaining, Zhahidi Robinson (SO/St. Petersburg, Fla.)’ hit a mid-range jumper to give the Builders a 68-66 lead. The team put to- gether a defensive stop on the ensuing KWU possession, but a quick turnover on the inbound gave the ball back to the Coyotes, resulting in two made free throws with 22 seconds left to even the score back up. Out of a timeout, the Moundbuilders held on to the ball until the clock went under ten seconds, setting up a post isolation play to Troy Baker (SR/Maize, Kan.), who had a one-on-one matchup on the block. Baker took a quick step and dribbled to his right before coming to a halt and putting up a turnaround fadeaway shot, watching it drop in with just over three seconds showing.
